Hello everyone I have a couple of very large pieces of wood that I have been itching to turn. Today I started one and it maxed Walter out even with the cut out bed taken out. The first pic shows the piece I started with give or take still has its corners and the cut out of the bed is still out. The second picture shows the corners have been completely taken off and the piece is rounded off & the cutout part of the bed is bolted back in so now I can move the banjo up closer to the piece, that's the only tricky part about having to take the the cutout part of the bed out restricts how far you can go with the banjo. I'm shaping the outside of the bowl now.
A couple of years ago I brought some very chunky tools off of Robbo Robertson tools that really get in there and take the wood out quickly, I finally got a chance to use them.
I have no idea what the wood is I can only assume it's some sort of gum.

Last couple weeks I've managed to find time to get back into turning. That drive to make something or to finish a piece has hit me like being yelled at by Robbo Robertson anyone who was taught to turn by him will understand. 😁 😉
Walter is getting cleaned up, I found pics of a Wadkin Bursgreen bzl straight from the factory so I'm going to repaint Walter to it's original colours which by luck includes red.

Bottlebrush egg cup. Three burnt lines, two dark & one lighter in the middle.

The bowl I started yesterday, will finish it today. I normally don't fill in cracks but I'm thinking of maybe stabilising it with some thick CA. Just got a little more shaping to do & then I can turn it around & turn out the inside. Finish it with Salisbury Craft's super soft white wood butter.
