A very proud moment for Aleacia Lawtey. 💗🎨

After around 18 months of work, Pieces of Me was completed just in time for the 2026 Art Show — and went on to win the Alfred Murfey Prize.

The artwork is deeply personal, but so is the journey behind it.

Alongside Aleacia on the night were some of the people who have supported and encouraged her along the way — her mum Leanne, her art teacher Rie, and her support worker Natalie.

Rie’s approach has always been simple: if Aleacia can do it, it’s her job. Her art.

Together they’ve found ways to adapt tools, materials and techniques so Aleacia can create as independently as possible — and proudly say, “I made this.”

Huge congratulations again, Aleacia. 💕👏

And if you haven’t seen Pieces of Me in person yet, it’s on display at Cube 37 throughout October as part of the 2026 Independence Australia Art Show.

What an amazing win for our community! 💙
I am incredibly proud to see a new Changing Places facility being built in Frankston — and especially proud to have played a small part in helping make this happen through my role on the Frankston City Council Disability Access and Inclusion Committee.
As someone with lived experience of disability and as a mum to Kira, I know just how important these facilities are. A Changing Places facility isn't simply a bigger accessible toilet. For people with complex disabilities who may require a hoist, adult-sized change table and additional space for personal care, it can be the difference between being able to participate in community life and having to stay home.
I am so proud that the voices and experiences of people with disability and their families are helping shape the way our community thinks about accessibility and inclusion.
This facility will make a real difference to young adults like our Kira, children, older people and people with complex disabilities of all ages — as well as the families, carers and support workers who help them navigate everyday life.
For our family, this represents something much bigger than a building.
It represents dignity. Choice. Safety. Inclusion. And the freedom to stay out in the community for longer without having to constantly plan around whether there is somewhere appropriate to provide essential personal care.
We have spent more than two decades adapting our lives around what disability requires. To see our community continuing to remove some of those barriers is incredibly meaningful.
I am genuinely grateful to Frankston City Council and everyone who has listened to the experiences of people with disability and worked towards making this happen.
I may have only played a small part, but I am incredibly proud to have contributed Kira's story, our family's lived experience and the voices of others who need these facilities to the conversation.
This is what inclusion looks like.
And today, I am celebrating this win for our whole community. 💙
For Kira. For every person with disability. And for every family who deserves to be able to participate fully in community life.
