Here it is - the first block of the greyhound quilt πŸ’–
Feeling like I want to keep the design of this quilt relatively uncomplicated, but that could change in a moment 🀣
Today though, I'm just loving this pretty block. The paw print is lovely and tactile with several layers of cotton wadding under the pink fabric, giving it added dimension.
Lucky tomorrow is a public holiday so I can see what the next block brings.
More pink, or orange, red or purple for the next one?

The first step was creating the embroidery applique file from an ink print of Princess Stacey Joy Greyhound's paw. Then stitching the layers of cotton wadding, choosing a vibrant fabric for the top layer, then creating the block.
It's a slow process when you design as you go, creating the pattern as inspiration and intuition guide.
My body says enough, time for a rest and some healing time, while my creative soul says sure, but you'll have to wail till I finish this block!
Finished block coming up next.
What do you think so far?

When does creativity become therapy?
When it makes your soul sing with joy!
If you're like me, it might also wake you up in the early hours of the morning with 'you've got to try this!' or 'what would happen if you swapped the fabric to this one?'
My first quilt was a private project, an expression of gratitude, so I won't be sharing that publicly. But now I'm designing and getting started on the second quilt, I thought it would be fun to share the process - from beginning to end.
So far, I've done some sketching on the iPad and turned that into an applique design for my embroidery machine, whilst also considering how it can be done by hand, and if I were to create pattern and instructions you could follow, how to best do that.
At present I'm doing some therapeutic shadow work that's been a bit gnarly. The celebration in that, apart from the freedom from old beliefs and behaviours that arrives when you do the shadow work, is that as the discomfort eases (physically and emotionally) creative ideas flow in, with more innovative approaches and new ways of doing things.
So today, while gently working with a shadow and easing myself through the day, I'm about to stitch the first test block for this quilt and see how it comes out.
Can you guess the subject of this quilt?

He is made from a wool/nylon blend with a polyester filling.
