[TRACKS] Whilst the site of the Queenstown West Coast Wilderness Railway is heritage-listed, the main building was actually built in the 1980’s.
Our challenge was to create character for the new cafe space whilst still making sure it felt contemporary and not twee.
The floor presented a bit of a challenge. It is chipboard (yikes) and we did not have the budget to overlay new flooring. The solution came from the train workshop flooring.
We got the railway team to stain the floor and deliberately leave it patchy. We knew it would develop a lived-in, been-here-for-a-while patina really quickly, and this was the intention.
