Milan Design Week 2026 - Takeaways and Trend Forecasts
Part Two.

Texture > Pattern
High-pile textiles, low-sheen velvets, nubuck leathers, chalked walls, sateen, gloss 2pac finishes and glassy-glazes were layered together to create captivating textural experiences. These finishes and materials were quite often rich or vibrant in tone. Pattern stopped at floor-level, with geometric and decorative motifs mostly confined to floor coverings and rugs.

A Conversation Piece
In a world of AI and social media, we noted the prevalence of design intended to restore human interaction and connection. Larger sofas are angled to direct people inward. Seating that mimicked sunken lounges were also prevalent, while Edra’s latest release boasts a backrest with an adaptable position to promote conversation from either side of the piece.

COLOUR PALETTES:

Pantone said white would dominate the world of design, with the announcement of Cloud Dancer as Colour of The Year For 2026. Milan said, ‘no, grazie’. Rich palettes of saturated colour prevailed throughout exhibitions and showrooms across the city. Pushing the boundaries of colour combinations, layering warm base notes with shots of invigorating vibrancy.

Some of our favourite combinations, and our predictions to what we will be seeing a lot more of in the years ahead.

Chocolate, Burgundy, + Aubergine

Blue, Mustard, Butter-Yellow + Wine

Clay, Biscuit, Pink + Musk

Milan Design Week 2026 - Takeaways and Trend Forecasts
Part One.

Serene Oriental
In chaotic world, there is a welcomed sub-trend that caught our eye. A sense of calming and serene spaces, with earthy, hand-crafted woodwork and natural fibres were a welcomed reprieve. Lighting constructed of paper and natural textiles to emit a soft glow further enhanced a Zen-like experience.

Brushed Aluminium
A prominent material featured heavily was brushed aluminum. Soft, large, circular strokes added a soothing texture to the material. Unlike brushed stainless steel which has been prevalent in design over recent years, this new take on brushed metal is more texture focused and evokes a sense of movement and softness to an otherwise hard surface.

Futuristic Goth
Fine metals intertwined to form silhouettes reminiscent of gothic architecture. Harsh and striking, this was prevalent most notably in sculptural décor from mirrors to lighting. These elements were statement-making and often constructed of recycled materials, amalgamated to take-on a futuristic aesthetic, with a strong reference to that of an era past.

Slubbed Glass
The use of textured glass has been prevalent in lighting design for quite some time. Textured, smoked, ambered glass materials were at the forefront of the latest releases in furniture design. Drawing the eye through solid objects, giving the illusion of lightness, as well as the perception of a greater sense of space.

WATEGOS | The threaded mirror detail in the ensuite was integrated with the window joinery to establish a seamless outlook to the cascading greenery beyond. The presence of the full-height sliding doors result in an endless connection to the rolling surf adjacent to the space.

WATEGOS | A stainless-steel trough becomes the basin for the powder room. The space is given warmth and vibrancy through the use of handmade tiles, both patterned and in the raw bijmat vertical stack, laid upon the walls.
