Meet Samantha Farr 📸

The creator and photographer behind Faraway Photos! We have several of Samantha’s images here in the gallery, take a look through the pictures to see her current work. She has an eye for an image - water, mountains, landscape, wildlife, interesting architecture or something a little abstract.

One thing she mentioned, that you may have noticed, is that she loves to capture images in black and white!

🖤⚪️🖤⚪️

Thanks for popping in Sam, we look forward to seeing your pieces in our upcoming DARK exhibition.

Not only do we have Huon Pine in our shop for you to look at, feel, enjoy and take home… we also have slabs and items made of Blackwood, Celery Top Pine, Myrtle, Blackheart Sassafras and Spalted Sassafras! ⭐️

Time to test your skills! 🔍
Pictured are the slabs of the timbers mentioned, work through the images and see if you get them all correct.
No cheating, the answers are also pictured 😉

Let us know if you get them right, or if any surprised you!

“So where has the Huon Pine actually come from?”

There are about 10,500 ha of Huon Pines growing, of which 8,000 are in permanent reserves such as National Parks. Cruises along the Gordon and Pieman Rivers will reveal both young and old trees growing profusely along the river banks, and they are only a small indication of the rich forests growing in those areas.

But it is precious because it grows so slowly and to such prodigious ages, so it needs to be treated with respect and care.

Today Huon Pine is protected and the timber we have is salvaged, have a listen to hear where it comes from today.

🍃🍃

These videos were taken at the mill at Island Special Timbers in Geeveston which is a Tasmanian government owned facility.

We’re excited to get these slabs to the shop soon!
