Anncarmel working slowly and oh-so-carefully on a new Archer Fish textile design at Merrepen Arts. You can see the layers below the design. We can’t wait to see what’s coming. Watching textile designs emerge and unfurl with the skilful facilitation of Bobbie Ruben during a much anticipated workshop is a slow motion delight.
So good to be back making art on country after flood displacement in March 2026.
Workshop supported by Arts NT.

The delightful Sarah wearing a one-of-a-kind A.N.D hoodie featuring snippets of hand printed fabrics from Injalak Arts. We can spot Melebiga (many textures), Yingarna (creation mother), Mayhmayh (little creatures) and Manjabu (fish traps) complemented with Cambodian cotton ikat. Sarah’s mother is the renowned weaver Carol Cassidy, founder of Lao Textiles in Venetian’s, Laos. Luckily for us Sarah completed her PhD at CDU and is now working in research there - so we get to see mum sometimes too.

Big thanks to Bernie for being my Mindil Beach Sunset Market sidekick in 2026. It’s made the markets a lot of fun. Also has meant (gratefully) kick-off coffees, toilet and meal breaks, showers in the sweaty months (yes!), better customer service … plus hundreds of interrupted conversations that we might finish one day. 🙏😘😜

Caroline in an utterly beautiful skirt she made (after a sewing hiatus of a few decades) from hand printed Injalak Arts fabric designed by Gwenyth Mangiru and printed on country in Gunbalanya, West Arnhem Land NT. We love seeing people taking the plunge and taking up sewing for the first or second time. She came into a pop-up at scouting for more fabric.

It’s always a delight to unwrap freshly hand printed fabrics. Merrepen Arts print in their own workshop in Nauiyu (Daly River, NT) when possible. They also have a number of designs printed offsite by partner Publisher Textiles in Sydney. These ones are amazing 🤩
Bradley Bianamu and Kieren Karritpul, in town for a pop-up did the unwrapping.
