They call me mellow yellow.... have you ever tried dying fabrics and threads with natural colour?

Have been drinking herbal infusions after dinner for a while now and noticed how much colour there was left in the tea bag (and wondering what it has been doing to my tooth enamel...).

So I started collecting and drying these tea bags, boiled them all up until I had a mustard colour dye bath and added some cream and white cotton threads and white vinegar as my mordant... I was happy with the result I had achieved so I decided to use some fabric scraps, speak pre-washed cotton and silk kimono.

The colour developed differently on the various fabrics, from a light and bright lemon yellow to darker more mustardy shade.

All in all, a successful dying adventure and beautiful fabrics for another collage.

Maybe I should try the Berry Tea next for shades of pink and mauve...

Had the pleasure of meeting these three lovely ladies in my Studio yesterday for a fun Boro & Sashiko workshop creating three modern (square bottom) drawstring pouches in bright and vibrant colour combinations.

Choose from a background linen colour of your choice, add some curated fabric patches, pair that with colourful sashiko and embroidery threads and you have a winning formula.

Student work!!! 🥰

Kerri Ann attended a Boro & Sashiko workshop last Saturday and diligently finished her sashiko stitching at home. She chose a more muted palette of beige and pale pink patches with a pop of mustard and did her Sashiko stitching with matching thread.

She sewed it into a flat zipper pouch with rounded corners and inserted a mustard zipper with gold teeth and she finished it all in four days...!!!! Record holder, well done Kerri Ann 🥇.

It always makes me very happy to see finished projects, so please dear students, keep sending them through to me!!

Next available workshop dates are Saturday Oct 03, 10 and 24, from 9AM to 1PM.

Bookings available through link in my profile 🪡 or I can put a kit together for you to create your own special project at home 🥰.

New me-made pottery vase 🐉 (part 2)

Some videos of the clay extrusion process, fondly nicknamed ‘birthing’, vase shaping process and glazing.

For this circular pipe extrusion I chose a green with golden flecks glaze for the base layer and a coat of white opal over the top, which created a really interesting effect.

This one needed a little extra waterproofing for the shorter pipe only and then it will be ready for its first Ikebana arrangement too 🌸😊
