FINISHES | It’s all in the details.

A laundry might be a practical space, but that doesn’t mean it should be an afterthought.

Before you see the finished room, there are a lot of decisions behind it — from the materials, colours and joinery to the lighting and finer details, and how they all work together with the rest of the home.

For this display home, I also took into consideration the builder’s exterior colours, overall vision and design direction. I introduced warmth throughout the home through the flooring, wall colours, lighting and furnishings, creating a flow from the outside in.

Taking the overwhelm out of renovating. Too many samples. Too many decisions.

When I first met Shirley, she had LOTS of samples - paint colours, stone, tiles, flooring and joinery finishes - feeling completely overwhelmed and unsure which direction to take.

Sometimes you just need a designer to step in and help you make sense of it all. That's exactly what we did.

Together, we narrowed down the selections and created a cohesive scheme that flowed from the outside in. We worked through the exterior and interior paint colours, flooring, stone, joinery finishes, tiles and lighting.

For the fireplace, we introduced a stone with a little more detail. Because the kitchen stone was neutral, this added interest and texture while still keeping the spaces connected.

By the end of our consultation, Shirley had a clear direction and felt confident moving forward with her trades.

Her words to me were: "You are my angel." I could genuinely see the stress lift from her. She was happier, more confident and excited about her renovation again.

And honestly, this is one of my favourite parts of what I do. Renovating your home should feel exciting, not overwhelming.
