HOW TO AVOID YOUR JAR EXPLODING

Crystals are what make our candles truly magical.
They bring energy, meaning, and a little ritual to each burn — and it’s one of the things that makes Crescent Moon Candles so unique.

That’s why we want to add this tip to our series - a small safety reminder to help you enjoy all that beautiful intention, safely.

As your candle burns, the wax softens and the crystals naturally shift. It’s all part of the process… but when a larger crystal ends up close to the wick, it can block the flame, or in some cases, cause excess heat that might crack your jar.

The solution is simple:
When your crystal becomes loose in the wax pool, gently remove it using a spoon or tweezers. Let it cool, then keep it beside your candle or somewhere meaningful.

This little ritual keeps your burn safe while honouring the energy the crystal brings to your space.

Because these aren’t just candles - they’re soulful tools for connection, clarity and care.

CLEANING YOUR CANDLE JARS FOR REFILLING

Want to give your candle jar a second life?
Here’s how to safely clean out your empty soy candle for a refill – either at home or with us at a workshop!

Step by step:

Wait until it cools ➡ Let your candle jar cool completely after its final burn. Don’t try to clean it while it’s hot - safety first!

Freeze to release ➡ Pop the jar in the freezer for a few hours. Soy wax becomes brittle when frozen and often pops right out in one piece.

Wash gently ➡ Use warm (not boiling!) soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge to clean away any wax residue. Avoid harsh scrubbing or sudden temperature changes that could damage the jar. Be particularly careful if you have a coloured vessel that has been painted inside or out, as the paint tends to scratch or flake off very easily.

Remove old wick tabs ➡ If there’s a metal wick tab still stuck to the base, gently remove it using a spoon or butter knife.

⚠️ Important safety note:
Not all jars are created equal! Only vessels designed and tested for use as candles should ever be reused. Reusing unsuitable containers can lead to cracking, overheating, or fire hazards. If you’re unsure, don’t use it!

✨ Candle Care - Tip #4 ✨

WHY CANDLES TUNNEL - and how to fix it (safely)

➡What is tunneling?
Tunneling happens when your candle burns straight down the middle, leaving wax built up along the sides of the jar. The result? Wasted wax and a shorter candle life.

➡The reason? Your candle has a memory.
The first burn sets the path for every burn that follows. If the wax doesn’t melt all the way to the edges the first time, the candle will continue burning in that smaller circle — and tunnel every time.

➡How to fix it: The foil method
Wrap the top of your candle jar in aluminium foil, leaving a small opening at the centre to allow the flame to breathe.

Light the candle and allow it to burn until the entire top layer, including the built-up wax around the edges, has fully melted. This can take several hours depending on the candle size and how much wax has tunneled.

The foil traps heat and helps melt the remaining wax, restoring an even surface.

⚠️Important safety tips:
Never leave a burning candle unattended — especially when using the foil method, as it increases the heat inside the vessel.

Always place your candle on a heat-safe surface, away from flammable items and out of reach of children and pets.

Monitor the candle continuously while the foil is in place.

Carefully remove the foil once the surface has re-leveled. It will be hot, so take caution.

➡Pro tip:
To avoid tunneling in the first place, always let your candle burn long enough during the first light to form a full melt pool — where the wax melts all the way to the edges of the jar. Your candle will remember how to burn evenly from then on.

Last week was full of heart (and a little wax under our nails)

We got to celebrate all the incredible Mums — and the beautiful humans who step into that role — through the joy of candle making. And wow… what a week it was.
