How to measure the specific gravity in a dry dipping glaze.

SG= weight (grams) / volume (mls)

So you’re measuring the density of the liquid, making sure the ratio of water to particles is enough for the glaze to work.
60mls of water will be 60 grams.

But how much water is in your glaze?

Well if you divide the weight of the liquid against in volume you get the ratio.

Most glaze specific gravity is between 1.4-1.7

So if you get a big bucket of dry glaze…first put in a mask! Safety first! 😷🥽Then slowly add a majority of the water. Mix with a hand mixer and let it amalgamate for 24 hours. Then mix again and measure, adjust the water from there!!

How have I never used one of these! It’s made trimming so much easier! Evenly removes excess clay.

3. A burnishing trimming tool.
It’s pretty much an extremely blunt trimming tool 🤣 but so happy the staff The clay shed Sunshine Coast recommended it to me!
