vellum interiors is a boutique interior styling and decorating firm based in Sydney, Australia. We believe every space should provide an atmosphere and an experience that inspires the senses and makes you want to linger. Alex believes that atmosphere and experience are the two most important elements of a space, and she prioritises bringing a positive feeling into a space above all else. She enjoys working collaboratively with clients to uncover their style and taste, as well as how they live and what experiences they value at home, in order to create a space they love to linger in. Alex is inspired by old things – from houses and buildings to furniture and jewellery – and the stories of the people who owned them. In design, Alex is a lover of contrasts, vibrant colour and the unexpected.

Its a satisfying feeling 💧

Video and editorial styling by Bing Rowland in our Palm Beach project

The living room at our Palm Beach House was designed to be the heart of the home - a place to drop your bags, take a big exhale and feel like you’re on holiday.

Working with the beautiful blank canvas created by Rachel Hudson, we introduced a fireplace, then layered warm ochres, dusty pinks and terracottas with softer greens and blues, all tied together by a custom-designed rug.

The result is a joyful, relaxed room that naturally brings the family all together.

What do all my best clients have in common?

✅ They’re great people who I’d happily sit next to at a dinner party
✅ We’re aligned from the get-go, and they trust me to do the right thing by them and their home
✅ We’re both sad when the project ends because we don’t get to see each other anymore 🥹

An interior design project can take anywhere from a few months to a few years, so when you’re choosing a designer, my advice is always to choose the person you genuinely like, trust and can see yourself working with successfully long term.

The relationship matters just as much - or even more than - the end result!

Revisiting this beautiful beachside house today.

Designed in collaboration with , who created an incredibly open, light-filled and highly functional backdrop - the perfect canvas for us to layer in colour and a little playfulness.

Holiday houses allow for a certain freedom, and the chance to do something you might not in your everyday home. I see it as almost like putting on a different outfit or letting loose a different version of yourself.

Our clients gave us the creative ‘leash’ to do exactly that, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.

The walk-in-robe at our Glenmore Terrace project started off as a bit of a “nothing” thoroughfare into the ensuite.

Wanting to maximize the use of each space - aesthetically and functionally- we made the wardrobe doors mirror to reflect natural light and give our clients a full-length mirror moment.

We used this hand-painted wallpaper, applied to just half the space, to add colour and whimsy. It acts as just one of many “surprise and delight” moments in this house.

We’re so glad our clients trusted our vision and are so happy with how it turned out 🩷

Turning a design on paper into a home you love is where the magic (and a sleepless nights..) really happens. ✨

The construction phase is exciting, but it’s also where every detail matters. From picking stone slabs to tile set-outs, and problem-solving anything unexpected, we aim to make sure what’s built stays true to the vision you signed off on.

This is where a keen eye for detail and high standards are essential, so the final result feels exactly like you imagined, only better.

If you’ve been dreaming of a home that’s thoughtfully designed and beautifully realised, get in touch to find out how we can help in 2026.

(Excuse my croaky voice at the end! Did wayyy to many takes to do another one. (IFYYK!) )
