Swatches, swatches, and more swatches.

The same paint can look so different on paper, in the can, and when it's painted onto different surfaces.

It can look very different in different lights. Natural vs florescent.

Choosing a colour from a swatch, then sampling it in the different scenarios gives you a much more clear vision of what your chosen colour truly is.

When is colour not just colour? When it's dancing with other colours!

Don't be afraid to mix and match. It can make quite the statement to choose a tiled splashback for the kitchen that's not a flat colour, but rather a colour that embraces a mixture such as the green and black tiles on the left.

Texture, width, dimension, colour, feel. It's not enough to look! Tactility and visual laying of texture can easily unite any space.

And a visit to showrooms helps so much with this process.

It's not enough to see. You need to feel.

These beautiful coloured cords can be used for lighting, weaving or anything really. All it takes is just a little imagination!

Choices, choices, choices! Where does ONE go?

It's not just about colour and pattern and what you see. It's about colour tone, tactility and vision - what you feel. But also HOW you feel.
One of my most joyous activities is taking clients on a rummage through a selection like this. It tells me so much about who they are, encouraging creativity, and shows a client's eye with their likes and dislikes.
I snapped this pic at Pigott's Store during a recent rummage. An incredible store to visit!

This is a fun corner I designed. There is a lot going on in such a small space.

The ornate yellow wing sculpture feature draws the colour from the vintage National Geographic collection.

The white framed photos in the centre that transition to natural wood coloured on the shelves underneath and above.

A mixture of colour and black and white images, the warmth of family.

The Monstera leaves and the seashells - from the earth to the sea.

The shift from the yellow National Geographic spines below, to yellow and then blue spined books on the right, balanced with orange spines on the top shelf.

The vintage bowl with pops of blue and yellow colour.

A mixture of simplicity, vibrancy, and elegance.

Pairing patterns, colours, and textures is such fun!

Starting with a base colour and pulling together samples that not only pair, but also work in direct opposition with, and visualising how this series of samples will work in my clients home.Always remembering the importance and affect natural light and a designed lighting plan will bring out the best in all finishes.

It really is such a fun part of the process, one of my favourite parts of design.
