(Not so) quietly swooning over this powder room design for The Pinnacle. ♥️

At our initial consultation, the clients shared something deeply special - the original building plans.

An owner-built home held by the same family for decades, this mid-century home in Mona Vale is now ready for its next chapter with its second owners - a fun young family with children who love to entertain.

As demolition begins, we’re working to retain the character that drew them in, while reshaping the kitchen, dining and living areas to be more open, practical and suited to the way they live.

Surrounded by bushland, the home will be opened up to bring in light and outlook, making it as much a part of the design as the joinery and finishes.

Looking forward to sharing the transformation as it unfolds.

Floor plans are puzzles. 🧩

And this was no exception.

Consideration of raked ceiling heights and compliance for habitable vs non-habitable spaces, this kitchen/dining/living has been redesigned for a young family of four to utilise every inch of the existing footprint.

Luckily, true to its mid-century modern bones on the slopes of the Northern Beaches, its elevated stilt construction allows for ease of access to services. The island has been created as the central hub for cooking and entertaining.

Currently in demolition, I’m excited to see a modern transformation, while still honouring and celebrating the MCM character that drew the owners to this home in the first place.

This is where we carefully consider how your home will function, how it will feel to live in, and what’s truly possible within your space.

We also navigate the less visible, but equally important layers - building codes, Australian Standards, compliance requirements, and structural considerations, ensuring your design is not only beautiful, but buildable.

When this stage is thoughtfully resolved, everything that follows becomes clearer, more cohesive and far less overwhelming.

One of my (many) favourite features of this kitchen. A continuous shelf under the range hood and upper cabinetry seamlessly integrating into the appliance nook and left wall.
