“Coastal Connections”.
The annual La Perouse mens camp is something myself and other members of my community look forward to each year. This painting tells a story from my point of view of the camp and the benefits I’ve experienced from this camp.
Coastal Connections.
The words speak for themselves. This painting is showing 2 generations, with the saltwater blues representing the present indigenous people today and the activities we get up to on this camp. For example, the circle with the U shapes around represents us sitting around fires sharing stories, lessons and freshly caught seafood.
The milky way whites represent our past generations that have passed down knowledge in and out of the water along with some slightly inappropriate, yet hysterical stories. I thought It was important to add past generations into this piece as without past generations, there's close to nothing we would know. As a reminder of them and what they have done is always brought forward each year followed with a sip of beer.
