Would you believe these used to be covered in thick navy blue chalk paint? 👀

The finish was rough and textured, so I gave them a light sand and worked with the texture that was already there instead of fighting them. I painted on a faux wood grain and added a little more texture to give them that natural timber look & then sealed them in Wise Owl Paint Matte Clear, which you can get from Furniture Paint Shop | Wise Owl Paint AU | Furniture & Cabinet 🤎

Now they’re a warm, moody pair of bedsides, and you’d never guess what was underneath 🤎 What do you think of the finish?

Your sander shouldn’t be doing all the work 👀

Instead of spending hours sanding through layers of old finish, I strip it back first and let the product do the hard part. Then it’s just a final sand to reveal the beautiful timber hiding underneath 🤌🏼

It’s messy, slightly chaotic and ridiculously satisfying every single time.

Do you prefer stripping or sanding ?

Be honest - did you expect the finish to come off that easily? 👀

This isn’t the stripper I normally use, so I had no idea what to expect. But I sprayed it on, gave it a scrub, wiped it away… and the result speaks for itself.

My client chose the colour, the timber top and the handles to create a piece that perfectly suits her style and home. That’s what I love about custom furniture - you get to choose every detail and make it entirely your own ✨

This one almost didn’t happen 🤎

A client fell in love with a dresser I’d refinished previously, but by the time she went to claim it, it had already sold. I happened to have the exact same dresser sitting at home, so instead of recreating it exactly, we used the original as inspiration and made this one suit her space.

It’s going into her nursery alongside a Pottery Barn cot, so I took the base a little darker to help the two pieces feel like they belong together while keeping everything else soft, warm and neutral.

I think that’s my favourite part about refinishing furniture - taking something that already exists and making little changes so it feels completely at home in someone else’s space. 🤎
