Some 70 Series builds spent three times more on mods than tyres.

That's the trap with jumping to 35s or 37s, because every size up rotates your speedo further from reality and quietly cuts your braking, and past the factory allowance you're into state engineering approval before it's even road legal.

Here's what each jump actually costs before you commit.

Metal grey 76 wearing a Urnieta bull bar with the winch tucked in low, and there's a real reason that front end reads so tight. Up top the roof rack, the rear ladder and the side steps all bolt to the factory points with nothing cut, so the whole thing hangs together instead of looking bolted-on. That carbon fibre bonnet is the quiet finish. Kit yours out at pvsautomotive.com.au.

The factory Jimny front end has nowhere to mount lights and no real protection, so the Vintage front bumper steps in with slim single-piece steel, a low-set light bar and a winch tucked in behind, all sitting tight to the guards with nothing cut. Reads like it's earned its miles.

A 76 leaves the factory with a slim front end, a tall thin windscreen and a Jimny sitting bare, none of it ready for real touring. The Urnieta gear sorts that: a full bull bar and winch on the 76, the SALADO front bumper and snorkel on the Jimny, plus roof racks, ladders and light bars that bolt to the factory points.

Take a look at pvsautomotive.com.au.

The SALADO front bumper takes the hit up front, with the winch sitting fully recessed inside the housing, so there's nothing hanging out to snag on the line up a climb like this. Are you running recovery gear on your Jimny yet, or still hoping you won't need it?

Vanilla White 76 with the carbon bonnet and matching carbon bull bar, and the contrast against the Vanilla White body is doing a lot of work here.

The bull bar carries a winch low behind it, side steps run the length underneath, and there's the roof rack up top with a rear window MOLLE panel on the side glass. All bolts to the factory points, nothing cut.

A 76 wearing a Urnieta bull bar with the twin round driving lights and mesh grille, snorkel up the guard, roof rack carrying a pair of hard cases and the window vents on the rear glass, sitting in front of snow the way these things are meant to be seen.

Toyota left the platform good but bare, so we built the parts that were missing and nothing here was cut to make it fit. Fourth photo says the rest, wheels in the river, still going.

Short wheelbase 71 in desert sand, side stripes and steel wheels sorted.

The bull bar and retro side profile just work.
