Step 1: Selecting the Timber
"The foundation of any great piece starts with the right material. We’ve chosen American oak for its durability, beautiful grain, and classic finish. Before moving forward, make sure your boards are straight and free from defects."
Step 2: Preparing the Pieces
"Next, we measure and cut the boards into smaller flat pieces. Accuracy here is crucial — every piece needs to be consistent for a perfect fit later on."
Step 3: Joining with Biscuit Joints
"To join these pieces, we’re using biscuit joints. This method not only strengthens the connection but also helps with alignment. Apply wood glue, insert the biscuits, and clamp everything tightly until it’s set."
Step 4: CNC Cutting for Precision
"Once the panels are ready, it’s time for precision cutting. Thanks to our partner, "Sydney's Wood Connection", we were able to use their CNC machine to follow detailed instructions, ensuring each piece is perfectly shaped and identical. This step guarantees uniformity across the entire altar rail."
Step 5: Rounding the Corners of Newel Posts
"For the newel posts, crafted by "iBuildStore", we use a shank router bit to round the corners. This gives the edges a smooth, refined finish — an essential detail for a professional look."
Step 6: Sanding and Finishing
"After cutting and shaping, we sand every surface to achieve a flawless finish. Then, apply a protective coat — we’re using a clear varnish to highlight the natural beauty of the oak."
Step 7: Combining Antique Elements
"To complement the altar rail, we respectfully incorporated an antique lectern crafted by "Beard Watson", we covered it in gold leaf to match the church’s décor. In the video, you’ll see the stunning transformation — before and after applying the gold leaf."
Step 8: Assembly and Final Touches
"Finally, we assemble the rail and check every joint for strength and alignment. The result? A handcrafted altar rail that combines traditional techniques with modern precision."
