In realising the opportunity to create a potent place that redefines Macquarie University's Central Courtyard, we proposed an inviting and dynamic public realm where students and academics from different disciplines, along with visitors, can meet and interact.⠀

Throughout the transformation of the Central Courtyard, the fundamental elements and structure were retained and celebrated, whilst layering new uses and social infrastructure to create dynamic social and learning spaces which are adaptive and uplifting. ⠀

The Central Courtyard is a vibrant, dynamic precinct that creates a focus for the entire Macquarie University community and creates a memorable and meaningful place while respecting and celebrating the architectural, cultural and landscape heritage of the precinct. ⠀

Our vision for the precinct was to make it significantly more permeable, transparent, accessible, connected, legible, colourful, illuminated and positively engaged with its surrounding campus urban fabric and landscape. Looking forward to seeing staff and students back soon. Find out more here: https://macquarie.architectus.com.au/

“The Macquarie University Central Courtyard Precinct Redevelopment will restore the beating heart of the campus. Embodying the future of tertiary education – vibrant, dynamic precincts that engage and enhance the human experience” said Architectus Principal Luke Johnson.

Completed over seven years, Architectus has realised one of the most remarkable transformations of an Australian university campus, and we’re excited to see students and staff enjoy these incredible spaces after
lockdown.

Located across the street from Geelong’s burgeoning arts and culture quarter, Ryrie Home offers 109 new apartments to a market attracted by Geelong’s coastal setting, its industrial history, and its contemporary identity as a dynamic economic and innovation hub. On track for completion in late 2022, these elegant and timeless apartments include open, light-filled spaces, generous private balconies and access to a resident-only sky terrace. ⠀

“Ryrie Home has drawn upon the history of Geelong and its architectural vernacular. The robust materiality and strong compositional order of the brick wool store are defining markers of the city character and are considered through our podium scale and design” said Oliver Mayger, Architectus Principal and National Residential Sector Leader. ⠀

The Harbord Diggers Club Redevelopment has been recognised by the World Architecture News (WAN) Awards, shortlisted for 2021 in the Mixed-Use category.

The WAN judges commented, “I love this project not only for what it has represented, but how it has evolved and kept the spirit of the community and sensitivity to landscape and coastline at the forefront of the design.”

A collaboration between Architectus, CHROFI and JMD Design, the development is surrounded by spectacular coastal sandstone formations and native coastal landscape.

Congratulations to our client Harbord Diggers and Mounties Group, and the extended project team!

Brookfield Properties appointed Architectus as Executive Architect to work with Make Architects on the landmark Brookfield Place Sydney project – from the design concept to construction completion. ⠀

Two levels beneath the building, the concourse is an intricate system of paths that have been woven together to enable clear wayfinding for rail commuters and pedestrians and includes a variety of spaces for retail outlets. At the George Street level, the entry portal diverges into a through-site link that connects to Carrington Street – providing access to Wynyard Park, bus transport, and the CBD’s western edge beyond.⠀
