Two firsts in one for Under Armour 🙌Opening their first-ever Montana USA store AND launching the new UA Sports House store concept.

Location was everything for this new UA Sports House concept. While this is Montana’s first Under Armour store, it already had massive ecommerce demand across the state. Situated just 1.5 miles from Montana State University, the Bozeman UA Sports House will be a much-needed community hub for passionate students, athletes and alumni.

The new retail concept blends premium brand storytelling with accessible, outlet-level value in one store. As customers approach the store, they’re met with the latest performance products, framed and displayed within Under Armour’s signature logo fixture. As they move on through the store, it transitions to offering a broader assortment of ranges and price points.

Congratulations to Megan, Henry, Pill, Jorge and all the Under Armour Team! We loved working with you and we can’t wait to see how the local sports community makes it their own.

When the Bespoke Careers Global Panel asked Chris who had the biggest influence on his career, it took a second to whittle it down to one person: Australian Mechanical Engineer, Industrial & Product Designer, Barry Hudson. Barry was a practising designer, and lecturer at RMIT where Chris studied Industrial Design. Aside from a career filled with commercial designs that generated billions in sales, Barry inspired Chris to push a concept to the edge, then ruthlessly cull any ideas that doesn’t serve the cause.

Who has had the biggest impact on your career?
Barry Hudson, Mechanical Engineer and Industrial Designer

One of my first lecturers at RMIT University was Barry Hudson. Barry was an accomplished Industrial Designer and Mechanical Engineer, who invented products like the Black ‘n Decker Dustbuster, the famous two-toned, GE bench-top kettle, and even re-engineered rotary engines to power Mini race cars he competed in.

What did you learn from them?
Barry’s approach to any design challenge was to take a second to think about it, then don’t be afraid to cull any also-ran ideas.

How does this influence your work today?
With the pressure of our client’s projects and deadlines, there’s a temptation to rush the answer to get to the solution. But a decision made in haste only solves half the design challenge - speed, it doesn’t solve the bigger problem. This is when I draw on Barry’s ‘Think about it’ approach. It makes me take a beat and inspires me to turn the challenge over, look at it from all angles, play out a couple of scenarios before committing fully to an idea.

Congratulations Berghaus!
‘This is Your Haus’ concept store opened this week in Manchester UK.
We worked with Bob Neville Pentland Brands Global Head of Retail, who challenged us with a killer brief: create a space that feels like home to the Berghaus community, celebrates their passion for getting outside, and welcomes the outdoors in.

Berghaus started life back in 1966 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, by British Mountaineers Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison. The brand is known for its innovation, manufacturing the first internally framed rucksack through to its iconic pieces like the Gallagher-famous Trango Jacket.

The new store is located at Manchester Arndale. It’s the new home to the Berghaus Outdoor community, open to everyone who loves to get outside.

When we started Lex back in 2018, I think we had equal parts hope and enthusiasm, with a small dash of quiet fear, hoping this was a good idea. Fast forward eight years and I wish we could go back in time to tell ourselves - it’s ok, it works out, the gamble was worth it.

It’s taken those eight years for us to settle-in and carve-out our own specialist niche in the industry. We love working with retail brands that need fast, creative and experienced retail designers. And we’re project-focused designers, we love to solve design challenges across any retail category, store location or business size.

Congrats Durk’s Café on your latest café now open in Nowra! We started working with the Durk’s Team when they launched back in 2021. We had no idea then that they would go on to open 15 new locations in just five years – cracking pace!

Not every great idea gets built. Some get cut because of the budget, or schedule, or just because it wasn’t the right time. It’s all a part of the design process, but some ideas are too good to ditch.
Introducing The Cutting Room Floor, our new series where we share the retail design ideas that we loved too much to leave behind.
Edition 1: Storefront Plot Twist… Enter the pen plotter. A piece of mechanical drawing kit that turns a store front into a living, drawing, customer-engaging spectacle. Loaded with the brand’s own products. Programmed to draw the seasons, the street, the scene.
Sadly, it never made it to the store front for the project, but it still lives rent-free in our heads, plotting its rightful owner.

The incredibly talented Interior Designer, Danielle Brustman, has gone all in, painted the walls red and transformed her studio into the Superhot Shop for Melbourne Design Week 2026. I chatted with Danielle on our podcast last month about the event that’s part pop-up, part-exhibition, part-event space and of course, part-shop. There’s over 60 artists, designers and artisans all delivering to the brief - do what you want, but make it hot. Hot mess, hot flush, hot rod, hot stuff, what’s hot and what’s not. Superhot Shop is open every day until May 24.
