For years I watched my mumma make maznik like it was second nature to her, rolling the phyllo, layering it just right, twisting it into that perfect spiral. She was an absolute gun at it. And every time, I told myself I'd sit down and actually learn. But life got in the way, I was tired, and somehow the moment never came.

Today I finally learned workshop, Melbourne. And I have to say, it was so much more fun and so much simpler than I ever gave it credit for. Turns out you don't need to be a gun like mumma to make something that actually turns out right. Just needed someone to show me the steps and a bit of time I kept telling myself I didn't have.

Wish I'd learned from her sooner, but grateful I finally got there.

It's a lesson I've had to relearn in my career too, you can spend forever overthinking a skill before you try it, or you can just get your hands in it and realise it was never as hard as you'd built it up to be.

The "stay in your lane" belief 🌿 I stopped following the rulebook 📚
I used to think you had to pick one lane — designer or florist or educator 🎨🌸📚 but I've found a better way. For the longest time, I believed specialising narrowly was the "professional" thing to do. But I kept running into work that felt split in half, like I was hiding parts of what I actually do well. When I finally tried building Liza Rose [Pink Angels Events], The Rose Buffet, and The Rose Academy as one connected practice instead of three separate boxes ✨, everything shifted.
Now, I approach my business completely differently — as one creative practice with many expressions, not three competing identities. 💫
