Pretty consistent results with black clay and white glaze this time. Just one loss with a crack on the rim, but I’m more than happy to keep it at home.

It’s actually the first black piece I’ve kept for myself, and I love it.

A little glazing process + the reveal

For these pieces I tried Walker Ceramics Feeneys clay with Mayco Colors glazes, and I absolutely loved the result.

The clay gave the finish a more matte, raw and textured feel, which works so beautifully with the glazes.

The first brushstroke is always the most nerve-racking. After that, you just go with the flow.

The fate of that glaze is already written anyway — even if you mess it up along the way.

That’s part of the magic of ceramics. You never really know until the kiln opens.

Contrast — one of the things I love most about leaving the edges raw and unglazed.

With this black clay, everything feels intensified. The contrast, the texture, the form.
