Why I never skip the cleaning stage.

When refinishing salvaged furniture, cleaning helps remove years of grime, cleaning products, wax, grease and oils, and any other grime build up on the pieces. It's one of the most critical steps that will help you achieve a superior finish.

What I started with...

I actually really loved the vintage wallpaper that had been used as draw liners on these MCM bedsides but they were just too damaged to save.

And what I finished with...

I think the new draw liners work amazingly well to both modernise the look while still looking vintage.

So I couldn't decide on what papers to use for my MCM bedsides.
Thankfully, I made a decision that works for both a His & a Hers option.

Have you ever just wanted a colour that was a slightly different shade to what you had? Me too, so today I experimented with tones and shades and came up with a perfect colour for my current project.
The best thing about it was I used the 50ml sample pots from Artisan Paint Company to do it. I didn't have to use larger pots of paint that I may not even end up using so it saves on products and money and we all love saving money where we can.

50ml pots are only $10ea and come in a huge range of colours.

What colour will you experiment with?

Why I never skip the cleaning stage of any found furniture.
For many.. many.. many years it's probably been cleaned with all manner of cleaning products until it wasn't. Then it's probably sat where dust settled, fingers touched, animals rubbed and bugs moved in.
Eventually it found its way to the curb on its way to landfill with all manner of dirty junk piled on it.
I have no idea what a piece has been through before I get it so I always give it a thorough clean before I start any surface preparation. I want to avoid pushing years of grime deeper into the grain of the timber.
Time spent in preparation will make the difference in your finished piece.
