Secret garden proposals might be my new favourite thing. A little hidden spot in North West Sydney, flowers designed just for them, intimate nooks and crannies, with plenty of hiding places for a photographer to sneak in a shot of the moment.

PART 2 | Repurposing

Repurposing your wedding flowers can save you money, and less waste is always high on our agenda. But only if it actually makes sense.

I love getting more than one moment out of your flowers, but I won’t recommend moving something just for the sake of saying we’ve repurposed it.

Ceremony flowers → behind or beside your bridal table? Absolutely. On your table top? Absolutely not. We will not be pulling apart and making new arrangements while your guests are taking their seats.

Aisle meadows → floor arrangements at the ends of long banquet tables? Perfect. For table centres? Depends on type of flowers, the type of tables, the weather.

Ceremony flowers → cocktail hour while your guests are already there drinking? Nope.

And delicate aisle flowers that have spent a February afternoon baking in the sun? I probably don’t want those sitting on your dinner table either.

Good repurposing should feel like the flowers were always meant to be there.

PART 1 | Before your first florist consult

You do NOT need to have your wedding flowers figured out before you meet your florist.

You don’t need to know flower names. You don’t need the perfect colour palette. And your Pinterest board absolutely does not need to make sense.

Give me the 10 different bouquets you’ve saved. The conflicting colour palettes. The screenshots you can’t explain why you love.

That’s our job to interpret.

And when we ask your budget? It’s not to see how much we can spend. It gives us the blueprint to work out where your money will make the biggest impact.

Perfect. You don’t need to.

Just show us a picture that you like. Or show us 100. We can pull the common threads from your inspo and guide you to the finish line.

You can tell your florist that you love soft movement, dislike anything too structured, want touches of blue, or want the room to feel like an overgrown garden.

Those descriptions are useful. You can also just tell us how you want your guests to feel and what you want to spend.

I’m a wedding florist. Here’s 3 things I wouldn’t spend money on at my own wedding:

1. LARGE BRIDAL PARTY
If you really must, get your girlies to all wear the same colour dress and get some photos without the price tag of buying their dress, shoes, makeup and hair.

2. PERSONAL FLOWERS for family members. Button holes get squished, corsages get itchy, it’s a nice thought but maybe include them in a way that lasts, like a meaningful personal letter.

2. WELCOME SIGN
Controversial I know! But unless you’re in a function centre with multiple weddings happening, chances are your guests have found the wedding.
I’d be ruthless about anything guests barely notice, anything being added simply because it appears on a traditional wedding checklist, and florals that are too small to make a visual difference.

I’d put that money back into the moments that shape the whole room.
