THE GREAT MARMALADE ESCAPE 🍊🐌

There was a minor incident at the breakfast table this morning…

Apparently Marmalade decided he’d had enough and made a run for it.

Unfortunately, being a snail, his dramatic getaway was somewhat lacking in speed. 😂

Three hours later he’d made it past the toast.

Made from an old fork and brought to life with a pair of burnt orange hand-blown glass eyes, Marmalade may not be particularly good at escaping…

…but he certainly looks determined. 👀🍊

🧚‍♀️✨ Another little resident has appeared in the fairy garden…

His name is Pippin. 🐌

Nobody actually remembers inviting him.

One morning the fairies woke up and there he was — sitting amongst the mushrooms with those big black-and-white eyes, watching absolutely everything. 👀😂

They eventually gave him the very important job of Official Fairy Garden Lookout.

So far he’s reported three butterflies, a suspicious-looking leaf and Chilli going somewhere he probably shouldn’t. 🌶️🐌

Made from an upcycled fork with locally hand-blown glass eyes, Pippin is the newest little character to emerge from the workshop.

Legend has it the fairies gave him a pair of magical crimson eyes so he could keep watch over the garden after dark. ✨

Unfortunately, they may have given him a little too much personality at the same time. 😂

Chilli started life as an ordinary old fork, but with a few bends, a little imagination and a pair of hand-blown glass eyes, he’s found a much more interesting job.

Every fairy garden needs a guardian… apparently this one comes with four prongs and attitude. 🍴🧚‍♀️

Why would you call a burnt orange W***y Wagtail Bluey? 🧡🐦

Well… this is Australia. 😂🇦🇺

Following the great Aussie tradition of calling a redhead “Bluey” — with a little nod to our much-loved Aussie cattle dogs — this cheeky fellow had his name before I’d even finished deciding what to call him.

And check out that tail! 👀

Three detailed old spoon ends have been given a second life and turned into Bluey’s rather flash set of tail feathers. 🥄🥄🥄

A small announcement from the Palace… 👑

His Royal Highness Percival the Pelican has arrived.

Percival would like it known that he does not steal fish.

They are presented to him.

He does not sit on a shelf.

He holds court.

And royal blue isn't simply a colour — apparently it's a requirement of the position. 💙😂

Handmade from upcycled cutlery, Percival is currently accepting applications for a new kingdom.

A nice spot on a bookshelf will be perfectly adequate.

Somewhere deep in the Australian bush…

A rare lime-green lyrebird carefully positions himself amongst the foliage.

He remains perfectly still.

Invisible.

Completely undetectable.

At least, that's what Lenny thinks. 💚😂

Camouflage may not be his strongest skill — but making an entrance certainly is.

Handmade from upcycled cutlery, Lenny is now searching for a new patch of wilderness to call home.

A bookshelf will also be considered.

So… this was SUPPOSED to be a behind-the-scenes video showing the full process of turning some old cutlery into one of my W***y Wagtails. 🐦🔨

Camera set up. ✔️
Workbench in shot. ✔️
Me actually doing the work. ✔️
Clear view of any of it… ❌😂

Unfortunately, nobody checked the camera angle properly and Sergeant K**b 🫡 had positioned himself front and centre.

Thirty seconds of cutting, shaping and creating… while this bloke stood there proudly blocking half the bloody show. 😂

By the time I realised, the bird was finished and Sergeant K**b had already secured his starring role.

Thankfully, he finally got out of the way long enough to catch the finishing touches — and reveal one rather bright blue W***y Wagtail. 💙🐦

Lesson learnt?

Always check your camera angle.

And never trust Sergeant K**b with production. 🎥😂

Rufus had been warned about stealing chips.

Several times, actually.

But Rufus maintains that if you leave your lunch unattended, that's not stealing — that's opportunity. 😂

With his copper coat, fiery yellow and red eye, and absolutely no remorse, Rufus is now looking for somewhere new to perch.

Preferably somewhere within sight of the kitchen. 🐟🍟

🐦💙 Looks like another pelican has flown into the workshop!

This is Harbour, finished in a beautiful teal that gives him a fresh coastal feel. It's always amazing how a different colour can completely change the personality of a sculpture.

From a handful of old forks and spoons to a pelican with plenty of character... that's the fun part of what I do.

What do you think—does Harbour remind you of the beach, the river, or somewhere else entirely? I'd love to hear where he'd feel most at home! 😊

Sometimes it's not the artwork that gets the upgrade... it's the workshop. 🛠️✨

After a bit of planning (and a bit of moving things around! 😂), I've finally installed a new workbench and sorted out some storage for all the bits and pieces that seem to multiply on their own.

It might not be the most exciting project I've ever shared, but I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out. A better workspace means more room to create, fewer excuses for losing tools, and hopefully a few more birds and snails making their way into the world. 🐦🐌

Now... let's see how long I can keep it looking this tidy! 😅
