What a beautiful start to Spring.....a perfect day spent gardening followed by some sewing when the rain rolled in.
There's still not a lot out in the garden at the moment, but here's a little bit of colour that is peeking through the green.
My Wintersweet has just started to bloom. Bright yellow flowers on bare branches.
The big flat leaves of the Blood Lillies.
One of my Hellebores still looking lovely.
The Cliveas are in flower.....all 20 of them....but the snails love them.
Camellias always brighten the garden at this time of the year.
Cyclamens are tougher than you think. These are in the garden and fend for themselves under the Silver Birch trees.
I have a huge patch of Alstroemerias which provide me with flowers 10 months of the year. Great cut flowers.
A pot of these small daffodils are in flower again. I bought them from the International Flower and Garden Show a couple of years ago.
Poppies......one of my favourite flowers.
So happy to see buds starting to swell on my Dogwood (Cornus controversa). My favourite tree in my garden.
I spent most of today tidying up 'Mum's Garden'....lots of pruning and w**ding. This plaque was presented to me by the Timboon Garden Club back in 2017 😊.
We will be back in the shop tomorrow. Lots of work to do......web orders to post out, new kits to pack, and more fabric to cut.

What a great day we had today at our second Sewing Day for the 'It's in the Bag' drive. Twenty four attended, with our youngest stitcher Amber enjoying a day with the ladies and not going to the football with her brothers. Her stitching was fabulous too!
In between stitching, there was Jelly slice, Anzac biscuits, chocolate biscuits, and scones jam and cream on offer for morning and afternoon tea. Lots of cups of tea and coffee were also enjoyed. I even managed to get some more stitching done on my Stellar Garden quilt.
I would like to thank everyone for attending and helping to raise $780 for the purchase of items for bags. Thanks also to the ladies who donated cash and items. You are all legends!
The third (and final) Sewing Day will be held on Sunday 11th October, 10am to 4pm at the Timboon Recreation Reserve. Cost is $20 per person and includes morning and afternoon tea, and tea/coffee. Contact me to book your spot if you would like to join us.

Did you know that we have a great range of beautiful flannel fabric in the shop. We are the second largest stockist of flannel in Victoria, with more due to arrive before the end of the year.
Today this blue, charcoal & grey bundle went home with a customer for a new raggy quilt. I'm sure that it will look great, and be beautiful and warm to cosy under on these chilly nights.

With the days getting longer, the weather improving, and my weight being the heaviest I've ever been, we have decided to take up walking again. Finding the time can be hard but this afternoon after we closed the shop, we headed out for some exercise.....followed the trail out to Glerums Road, up the road to Haywards Road, then down the Timboon-Curdievale Road past the pool and back to the shop.
The little gnome was hiding in a tree stump along the trail πŸ˜€

The new collection 'Out & About' by Natalie Bird from The Birdhouse arrived this afternoon. We have started cutting bundles and fat quarters, and it will all be listed online soon. There is even a lovely wideback, and a wonderful pre printed stitchery panel.

A productive outside day saw the remaining two beds cleaned up, topped up with compost, covered in w**d mat and replanted with the divided up strawberry plants. Russell helped with some of the heavy work which made it possible to get it all done and ticked of the list of gardening jobs to do. I still have to sew up the holes that I hacked into the netting 🐍😬.
We will be back in the shop tomorrow, and with two new fabric collections due to arrive this week, it's going to be a busy time ahead of us.

After feeling a little down yesterday......must be the end of winter blues......I ended up having a pretty lazy Sunday afternoon. Today was a new day, and after a trip to Warrnambool to visit our financial adviser for our yearly review, this afternoon I headed back to the Strawberry Garden. A few weeks ago I purchased some UV stabilised w**d mat and today I laid it over the top of the first bed. I used to push it in and peg it along the edge of the sleepers, which was always difficult to do properly. This time I decided to pull it down over the edge and staple gun it in position. Hopefully this works better 🀞. 35 Strawberry plants are now planted πŸ‘
Tomorrow's plan....work on the second bed.....and maybe some stitching 😊

Just a reminder that bookings open tomorrow morning at 9am for our 2026 Spring Retreat Weekend. This year the Retreat will be held on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th November at the Simpson Public Hall (new venue).
Here are a few details for those interested:
Times are Saturday 10am to 7pm and Sunday 9am to 4pm
Includes morning and afternoon tea and 2 course lunch on both days. Light meal on the Saturday night. Tea, Coffee and water all weekend.
Goody bag, lucky draws, show & tell, and the pop up shop will be there of course.
Accommodation is not included, but there are plenty of options in Simpson, Timboon, Cobden and Port Campbell.
A few changes from last year's Spring Retreat Weekend.....you can bring your sewing machine if you wish (but I will need to know), no food truck this year, no guest designer, and a change of venue (which is larger and more room to move).
As usual, I will turn my phone off to allow the messages to come through in order. To book in, ring and leave your message and I will get back to you by midday.
Cheers Linda
