We love seeing our timber cheese and charcuterie boards being put to good use — loaded up with cheese, crackers, meats, dips and probably a little *“just one more piece”* than anyone intended. 😂
But just like anything special, your timber board needs a little care to keep it looking its best!
✨ **Here’s how to look after it:**
🧼 **Wash by hand**
Give it a gentle wash with warm water and a mild dish soap after use. Don’t soak it or leave it sitting in water.
🚫 **Keep it out of the dishwasher**
The heat and moisture can cause timber to dry out, warp or crack. Your board definitely does NOT enjoy a dishwasher spa day!
🌬️ **Let it dry properly**
Dry it with a clean tea towel and stand it upright or somewhere with good airflow so it can dry completely.
🪵 **Oil it regularly**
When the timber starts looking a little dry, dull or thirsty, it’s time for some love. We recommend using a **food-safe board oil/mineral oil**, followed by a food-safe board wax if desired.
📅 **How often?**
For a board that gets regular use, **every 4–6 weeks** is a good general guide. If you use it heavily, wash it frequently or notice the timber looking dry, give it some attention sooner. Boards that only come out for the occasional grazing platter may only need oiling a few times a year.
💧 **A good rule of thumb:**
If the timber starts looking like it could use a drink… it probably could! 😂
And remember — timber is a natural material. A few marks, knife lines and changes in colour are all part of the character and story of a well-loved board.
Take care of it and it’ll keep serving up the good stuff for years to come. 🧀🥂
