🧵 Placement beats perfection.

This quilt is one of my favourite examples of what happens when you stop worrying about whether every motif is perfectly centred and start asking a much better question:

Does this make me happy?

Some fussy cuts are beautifully centred.
Some are accidentally upside down.
Some are cropped.
Some are tiny little surprises you only notice when you get close.

And then Raylee - quilter, teacher came along and added another whole layer of play with the quilting. 🩷

That’s the bit I love most about patchwork — there isn’t one “correct” way to use a print.

Move it around. Turn it. Crop it. Put the weird bit in the middle.
If it makes you smile, you did it right. 😍

The goal isn’t approval.
The goal is to have fun making something you love.

🧵 Proof of life from the design wall.

Six blocks up. Three still to go.

I’ve been quietly chipping away at a 🐿️ secret squirrel project behind the scenes, and today another block joined the wall.
Some of these blocks have taken me hours. Today’s took 1 hour 38 minutes, which felt positively speedy by comparison. 😂

There’s something ridiculously satisfying about getting to this point — when individual blocks stop feeling like separate little jobs and you can finally start seeing the whole thing take shape.

Bonus win for today: I’m actually travelling nicely against my sewing plan this week, which feels suspicious, but I’m choosing not to question it. 🤣

🩷 While school’s out I’m making things I love and enjoying watching the wall fill up...

💌 I GOT MAIL!!! I ordered some amazing fussy-cut-friendly fabrics from Angie & Coco (and not just because the name is so cool!) and I just had to share them with you.

Fabrics are:

🐯 Poolside Too — Tigress in Golden Hour

😍 I hunted high and low for the prawns, so I was beyond thrilled when they were restocked. So thrilled, in fact, that I got out of bed at 11:20pm to order them when I saw them pop up in my IG feed. 😂

📏The scale is PERFECT for a 1” × 1” finished square, and they’ll also look super cool as a statement fabric in patchwork blocks. I would absolutely buy a whole bolt if I could!

🎧 Ruby Star has some of my favourite fussy-cut fabrics. I liked these so much I had to get them in every colour.

😇I was very restrained and only bought a FQ of each — which is basically my minimum cut when I really love a fussy-cut print.

🐅 And I had to get Tigress in this colourway. I adore it. I tried to get a bolt, but alas, it was sold out.

Apparently I’m going through a tiger phase at the moment. I can’t explain it. I’m just embracing it. 😂

Why do we buy the fabric we absolutely adore and then decide it’s suddenly too good to use?

Consider this your intervention:

Cut. The. Good. Fabric.

Fussy cut the bit that makes you ridiculously happy. Use the hero print. Stop waiting for some mythical quilt that’s finally “worthy” of it.

Fabric is supposed to be used!
