A Queenslander renovation and extension that had to work as hard as the family living in it.

Putty cabinetry, warm timber, curved joinery, fluted glass. This home extension is about texture over colour, character over sterile, in true Queenslander style.

Storage did the heavy lifting: built-ins for the school bag scramble, a mirror and bench for one last check before work, a laundry big enough to actually function. Good interior design solves problems you didn't know you had.

This home mixes natural stone, timber and concrete; three materials that clash easily in the wrong hands. Here, they're balanced so the whole thing reads calm, not competing.

A folder full of saved images tells us your instincts. It can't tell you how those finishes actually sit together in your home.
Here's what a materials board does that a mood board can't:

— Shows you every finish together in one place before anything gets ordered

— Reveals how your tile reads under your actual light, not showroom lighting

— Catches the combinations that look right online but wrong in real life

— Saves you from the most expensive mistakes before the build starts

Most clients change at least one finish after seeing the board. That's not a problem. That's the point.

If your designer hasn't shown you one before your build starts, ask for it.

You do a load before work. You do another one on the weekend. There's a basket on the dining table waiting to be folded, and a pile on the spare bed that's been there since Tuesday.

The laundry is the room you use most in the house. It's also the one nobody designs properly.

A few things we think about before drawing a single design.

How many loads a week. Daily households need a different laundry to weekly ones. A drying rail, a hanging space, a second hamper - the difference between coping and not coping.

What lives in there beyond washing. The iron. The vacuum. The dog towels. The school hats. The cleaning products. A laundry is also a utility room, and the storage needs to know that.

How tall you are. Bench heights and overhead cupboards are usually specified to a standard. If you're shorter than average, the top shelf becomes dead space. If you're taller, your clothes drag on the bench while drying.

This is what we mean when we say a laundry should be designed around how you actually use it.

The mirror is never just a mirror.

Get the size wrong and the whole bathroom feels off. Not in a way you can immediately explain. Just a nagging feeling that something isn't quite right every time you walk in.

It needs to relate to the vanity beneath it, sit at the right height, and feel like it belongs in the space rather than something that got hung wherever was convenient.

It's one of the last decisions most people make in a bathroom renovation. It should be one of the first conversations.

This is what it looks like when you hand the brief over and trust the process completely.
No second-guessing every tile. No decision fatigue at 10pm on a Tuesday. No wondering if the benchtop will clash with the floor once it's all in.

Just a home that feels exactly right because every decision was guided, every detail was thought through, and you didn't have to carry any of it alone.

That's what we're here for.

We knew the dusty pink tile would be the conversation starter. We paired it with a deep maroon vanity to make it a bathroom worth talking about.

Both colours are pulled straight from the client's favourite element: a statement Calacatta Viola benchtop which has the dusty pink and maroon running through it.

A family bathroom still has to work hard. But that doesn't mean playing it safe.
