I have long considered doing bronze sculptures of wildlife as a career path, but with the responsibilities of a family in the beginning years, I was never quite game to take the leap.
However, from time to time moments came my way to test the water or to point me in that direction; there seemed to be a natural progression without me being fully aware of it at the time. After my school years, I had become certified in machine shop practice and fitting – with a course on heat treatment and welding thrown in. A change in circumstances, however, led me to purchase a watch and jewellery store with my brother. I had choices at the time, as it was the mid 1960s and pretty easy to move around the world at that time. So, it was either go to Canada and experience the true wilds or stay and consolidate my future. I chose the latter. In hindsight, maybe I should have thrown caution to the wind, but jewelry stirred my curiosity in casting gold and designing.
