I’ve often been asked if it is
easy to make candles.
My answer is that it is hard to
make a ‘perfect candle’.
It has taken me years of practice, trial
and error. With this in mind I am
a one-person business and pride
myself on creating the best
candles.
So, what is involved?
Choosing the vessel, and the
volume of wax it will take.
Choosing the wax you want to use
– I have tried many soy waxes and
have now settled on a high grade,
pure organic soy wax.
The wick selection is one of the trickiest to get right as it
needs to create the right flame
strength to reach the outer parts
of the vessel.
One of the most important lessons
I've learnt is that temperature
matters. Wax and fragrance each
have their own ideal point of
coming together, and allowing the
wax to cool before adding the
scent helps preserve the
fragrance and produce a
better-performing candle.
I pour each candle in one smooth,
continuous motion, avoiding the
temptation to top it up later.
Even a small interruption can
affect the appearance of the
finished candle.
Whenever I'm testing a new
fragrance, I allow the candle
time to cure for 48 hours before
burning it.
This final stage tells me how
evenly it burns, how the wax pool
develops, and how the fragrance
fills a room 💗
