Hot off the needles! 🦊🚀🧶

If you’ve seen the recent Project Hail Mary movie, you’ll recognise this cardigan worn by Ryan Gosling’s character. Based on an actual pattern and a sweater that the movie’s costume designer found at a flea market, the design was then adjusted to feature foxes rather than wolves. I purchased the original wolf cardigan pattern from Mary Maxim Designs and then used fan-inspired charts for the foxes that I found on Ravelry. (Mary Maxim does have a fox version of the pattern available but only as part of a kit that includes yarn.)

I’ve been knitting for a very long time but this pattern had three techniques that were new to me - intarsia (I’ve still got some practicing to do there!), seaming together knitted pieces and putting in a zipper. I enjoyed the challenge!

Yarn is all from our mill. All from our 2nds and orphan skein box. Love the fit and the look. I’ll be wearing this one a lot!🦊🚀

As you know, we LOVE seeing what our customers create with fibre and yarn they source from us. We are always humbled by the amazing creativity and talents of our customers, and are honoured to play a role in someone’s creative practice.

Recently, we milled and spun some Victorian-grown coloured wool for a customer, Paul, who then wove lengths of fabric in a St Kilda Tweed pattern on an 8-shaft tabletop loom. The warp was also a Victorian-grown wool and the weft was the yarn we produced for him. He then worked with a local tailor to have a waistcoat and jacket crafted from this fabric.

This is a stunning example of how the amazing wool and fibre arts community in Australia is alive and thriving. The footprint of this project is small, focusing on local wool, a local milling process, and impeccable local artisanship.

Thank you, Paul, for inviting us to be a part of this amazing journey.

My Esperanza top is done! Crafted from our fingering/4ply Harvest Moon colourway from our Sky Collection, this crochet top is perfect for summer or for layering on cooler days. Our woollen-spun, non-superwash yarn is great for the project like this - lofty texture but not heavy.

I made the 3rd size and used about 975m of yarn (so 5 skeins). For reference, I have 38in chest measurement and am about 5’7” with a long torso. I followed the pattern without any modifications.

We will bring the garment and will have the yarn available when we attend the Canberra Wool Expo this weekend at The Old Bus Depot Markets. We spin this yarn in 8 different colourways, so we are sure to have a colour that suits your palette.

My recently finished Cloudesley! Beautiful pattern by Isabell Kraemer

I made the short sleeve version in size 3. The only modification I made was a 10 row 1x1 rib hem - I didn’t even add any length to the pattern! I used 4.3 skeins of our lovely 4ply/fingering weight Indigo Bunting colourway from the Sky Collection. This yarn is available online and we will have it in person at the Canberra Wool Expo 23-24 May at the Old Bus Depot Markets.

I love the fit and all the little details. This one will definitely become a wardrobe staple!
