Love this!

In this painting, René Magritte does what he does best: he takes our familiar world, breaks it into pieces, and then reassembles it…

As one of the leading figures of the surrealist movement in 1920s Paris, Magritte’s approach mirrors one of the group’s fundamental principles. The surrealist manifesto, a multi-page written declaration drawn up by André Breton in 1924, states their aim was to “liberate the mind by subverting rational thought and giving free rein to the unconscious.”

That’s why the figure and horse in this painting are somewhat familiar to us: Magritte ingeniously distorts what would be an ordinary scene by creating an optical illusion. He tricks your eye by combining separate elements into one complete image, transforming a horseback rider into a dreamlike vision. 😵‍💫💫

In doing this, Magritte not only takes us out of our world, but exposes how absurd life can sometimes be.

An open note on the reality facing small businesses today.
Behind the storefronts and local services, you love are independent owners facing a quiet crisis. The recent hikes in taxes, combined with escalating EFTPOS merchant fees, insurance, are placing an unsustainable burden on small bricks and mortar businesses.
For me and other small business, this is not a hobby —it is our full-time income and livelihood.
We are absorbing these costs daily because we want to keep our services accessible, but the reality is that the economic framework is not built to protect the little guy. It as a broken and failing system, which isn’t designed to protect independent trades.
If you want to support your local independent businesses right now, here are a few ways that make a massive difference:
• Pay with cash when you can to help us bypass heavy EFTPOS merchant fees.
• Leave a positive review online to help others find us without us spending on ads.
• Share our posts with your friends and family.
Thank you to everyone who continues to consciously choose small businesses. Your support keeps us going.
