One of our favourite Art Deco icons… and what a story! 🖤 Just outside London, standing proudly along the A40, is the extraordinary Hoover Building - an absolute masterpiece of British Art Deco. Completed in 1932, it was designed by Wallis, Gilbert and Partners as the UK headquarters and manufacturing plant for the Hoover Company. With its dramatic curves, bold geometry, lavish detailing and unmistakable sense of movement, the building was designed to embody the optimism of a new industrial age. Modern, progressive and beautifully futuristic.
FUN FACT: The factory closed in 1982 and stood largely unoccupied until the 1990s, when it was given a very unexpected new life as a TESCO supermarket! 😳
Then, in 2018, the site was purchased by luxury developers who transformed the building into luxury apartments, carefully preserving and enhancing its remarkable Art Deco features. From factory floor to supermarket… and finally luxury residence. What a journey! And thankfully, this extraordinary piece of Art Deco history has survived. 😍🖤
