One of our favourite Art Deco icons… and what a story! 🖤 Just outside London, standing proudly along the A40, is the extraordinary Hoover Building - an absolute masterpiece of British Art Deco. Completed in 1932, it was designed by Wallis, Gilbert and Partners as the UK headquarters and manufacturing plant for the Hoover Company. With its dramatic curves, bold geometry, lavish detailing and unmistakable sense of movement, the building was designed to embody the optimism of a new industrial age. Modern, progressive and beautifully futuristic.

FUN FACT: The factory closed in 1982 and stood largely unoccupied until the 1990s, when it was given a very unexpected new life as a TESCO supermarket! 😳
Then, in 2018, the site was purchased by luxury developers who transformed the building into luxury apartments, carefully preserving and enhancing its remarkable Art Deco features. From factory floor to supermarket… and finally luxury residence. What a journey! And thankfully, this extraordinary piece of Art Deco history has survived. 😍🖤

"The Jewelry Box Theory - Why some rooms feel so personal". This AD article uses the metaphor of a jewelry box to explain how interiors gain personality, depth, and emotional resonance. Designers describe a 3‑part formula. One being - layer pieces with history - meaning inherited items, gifts or art or furniture collected over time. This is a favourite theme with Art Deco Co. 🖤 Exotic Harem Pyjamas, designed by Paul Poiret, 1922

Monsieur Poiret was a pioneering French couturier who revolutionised women’s fashion in the early 20th century. Inspired by Middle Eastern and Asian aesthetics, he popularised harem trousers and loose, flowing garments that rejected the restrictive corsets of the era. His “harem pyjamas” were luxurious, theatrical evening attire rather than sleepwear, and became iconic examples of the exoticism that influenced fashion during the early 1920s. J’adore 🖤

Mae West (1893 - 1980) was an extraordinary talent - actress, comedian, playwright and philanthropist...... fearless. Pre-Madonna and Primadonna - she was the provocateur of her time and unapologetically embraced her sexuality. Her witty one-liners are legendary and still so incisively relevant. We love a bit of irreverence here.

"Say anything about me, darling, as long as it isn't boring."
A true original of Hollywood, Tallulah Bankhead was as famous for her commanding stage presence as she was for her unapologetically bold personality. She moved through the 1930s–40s cultural scene with a kind of fearless sophistication that perfectly mirrored the times - glamorous, and impossible to ignore.

Fun fact: although she is often associated with Hollywood’s Golden Age, Bankhead’s greatest acclaim actually came from the stage, where her performances were unpredictable and unforgettable. She also became a style icon of her time, embodying that unmistakable Art Deco spirit: modern, dramatic, and entirely self-assured.

We're still admiring the rich art deco vibes in this Moscow home - featured in a couple of years ago. The home belongs to 1stDibs 50 honoree Irakli Zaria (), who details Jean-Michel Frank's influence in the home's design and tonalities. A Shell lounge chair and Costela ottoman by Carlo Hauner and Ignazio Gardells were found on , as were the 1920s and ’30s French straw-marquetry boxes (designed by Jean-Michel Frank!) on the coffee table.
