Toby's birthday cake accidentally started all of this. 😂🌸
I once spent $700 on a birthday cake. If my husband sees this post, he may die.
My grandma used to make the most insanely beautiful cakes. Barbies. Butterflies. Giant numbers with the most amazing piping. Every single birthday. For every single grandchild.
Those skills did not get passed down to me.
I am seriously struggling to not burn a packet cake. I have accepted this about myself.
This year — the economy, the cost of living — I couldn't justify it. So I bought a supermarket cake.
The kids don't care about the cake. They care about the sugar.
But the look.
Some serious flowery magic needed to happen.
Stopped in the flower aisle. Found some poppies. Kumquats. A few mushrooms. Pulled over on the drive home for some geranium foliage. Cut an orchid from our neighbour's garden.
Poured a glass of wine. Put some music on. Started making.
At first I honestly thought it looked terrible.
Until you love it.
Kept going anyway.
The whole thing cost me $19.
And I had more fun making that cake than I'd had in ages. Not because it was impressive. Just because I really bloody enjoyed making something with no client, no brief, no reason for it to be productive.
And I realised how much I'd missed that.
That's why I built the Flower Lovers Club.
If you've been thinking lately — god, I need something that's just for me.
Maybe this is it. 🌸
