Toby's birthday cake accidentally started all of this. 😂🌸

I once spent $700 on a birthday cake. If my husband sees this post, he may die.

My grandma used to make the most insanely beautiful cakes. Barbies. Butterflies. Giant numbers with the most amazing piping. Every single birthday. For every single grandchild.

Those skills did not get passed down to me.

I am seriously struggling to not burn a packet cake. I have accepted this about myself.

This year — the economy, the cost of living — I couldn't justify it. So I bought a supermarket cake.

The kids don't care about the cake. They care about the sugar.

But the look.

Some serious flowery magic needed to happen.

Stopped in the flower aisle. Found some poppies. Kumquats. A few mushrooms. Pulled over on the drive home for some geranium foliage. Cut an orchid from our neighbour's garden.

Poured a glass of wine. Put some music on. Started making.

At first I honestly thought it looked terrible.

Until you love it.

Kept going anyway.

The whole thing cost me $19.

And I had more fun making that cake than I'd had in ages. Not because it was impressive. Just because I really bloody enjoyed making something with no client, no brief, no reason for it to be productive.

And I realised how much I'd missed that.

That's why I built the Flower Lovers Club.

If you've been thinking lately — god, I need something that's just for me.

Maybe this is it. 🌸

Okay I have a confession.

I think I started the Flower Lovers Club for pretty selfish reasons. 😂🌸

I turned forty. I wanted to slow down. I wanted a hobby. And honestly when I tried to think of something I actually wanted to do — I just kept coming back to flowers.

So I started making flowers outside of work. Just for fun.

Walking the streets. Foraging random bits and pieces. Coming home and just playing. Making something beautiful for absolutely no reason except that it made me happy.

No phone. No rushing. Just flowers and a glass of wine.

And it brought me so much joy that I thought — maybe other people want this too?

So I started talking about it on Instagram and oh my god the response.

Hundreds of DMs in two weeks.

Sooo many conversations with all different reasons people would want to do this.

Kate has never done anything like this before. She just loves flowers and thought — why not try and make something pretty? That's literally it.

Erin said "being an adult is really f***ing tough and we forget to have fun." I read that and just sat there for a second.

And Michelle has been through some really hard things lately. She said she'd been waiting and searching for something like this. She needed connection. Peace. Me time.

Katrina is an experieced florists but just wants to learn how other florists do things, experiment and play with colour.

I read every single one of these messages.

And honestly? I realised this was never really about me.

So many of us — especially women — need something just for ourselves. Something with absolutely no purpose except that it brings us joy.

We're launching September 1st. 🌸

Day 9 of Launching a Flower Lovers Club and I want to create this awesome resource!

We’re creating a Flower Lovers Trail Map and we’re looking for flower growers from all over the world to be part of it!

We’re making it so members of our Flower Lovers Club can easily find and support amazing local flower growers wherever they are.

The only condition? You need to sell flowers to the public — not just to the florist trade.

That could mean you have a roadside flower stand, sell at a local market, open your farm gate on certain days, have a little shop, offer pick-your-own flowers... anything! As long as flower lovers can actually come and buy your blooms.

If you’re a flower grower and would love to be included, DM me the words FLOWER TRAIL and I’ll grab a few details from you.

And if you know an amazing flower grower — big or tiny — tag them below or share this post with them! 🌷

I would LOVE to make this map absolutely packed with beautiful local growers for our flower lovers to discover.

Day 8 of Launching a Flower Lovers Club!

So we opened the waitlist, and have already had over 500 people join the waitlist, which honestly scares me a bit 😂

But I think it shows how much we all need something like this in our lives.

One question that kept coming up was, what do I need to get started?

And that’s probably the best bit about arranging flowers, it doesn’t require much to get started - a vessel, some snips and probably some twisty twine is all you need!

And then one day your hand bag might look like mine 😂

If you’re interested to see how the Flower Lovers Club is going to work, comment FLOWER LOVER and I’ll send you a video.
