Spring is here and it's the perfect time to start a new project! Let's be honest though, I don't need a reason to start a new project and neither do you. Start something new for the simple joy of it. Take pleasure in rummaging through your stash and playing with pretty things, that's all the reason you need.

Here I have started a new Patched and Stitched pouch but this time I'm going to make it a zipper pouch. I'll be working on this today as I head to my local Stitcher's Gathering with Mumsie.

For The Gentle Stitcher’s Companion, Lauren and I have created Favourite Things Sampler, a sweet little wall hanging combining English Paper Piecing and embroidery. Stitching, flowers, gardens, books, tea and friendship are all woven into this special collaboration.

More than just a collection of our favourite things, it’s a little celebration of the joy we find in creating, sharing and connecting with one another.

There is something about a little scrap of fabric that is so charming and utterly irresistible to me. They have so much potential and can be used to make so many different things, or to embellish other projects. Around here no piece of fabric scrap is wasted. Those that are too small to be stitched into something get used as stuffing for pincushions and decorations. I will happily go on collecting fabric scraps because they really do fill my heart with joy.

Hello friends,

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. We had glorious Spring weather here, sunny and warm. We went to Tilly's last Netball game and I spent time in the garden, planting and sowing seeds in the veggie patch and potting up some Spring Colour. On Sunday we went to the Mount Tomah Botanic gardens to see the daffodil meadow. We've missed it the last couple of years so happy to finally see it. I took my recently finished quilt with me to take photos in the garden. We also enjoyed the new Japanese garden they have just opened.

This week I'll be busy working on The Gentle Stitcher's companion and hoping I get my sew-jo back. I haven't wanted to pick up a needle all weekend after marathon stitching last week to get my quilt finished!

My Jewel Heart Quilt is one of my absolute favourite projects to stitch on and choose fabrics for. I have mixed modern patchwork fabrics with Liberty Tana Lawn, vintage 80's and 90's fabrics that came from my Mum's stash, and vintage sheets. The result is a lovely nostalgic quilt full of textiles treasures.

There are few things I think belong together quite as naturally as vintage sheets and hexies.

Those beautiful old floral prints, with their wonderfully unexpected colours and enormous blooms, seem to come alive when cut into hexagons.

A bit of a print you might hardly notice on the whole sheet becomes something completely different when it’s cut, stitched and surrounded by other little pieces.

Pair vintage sheets with hexies and suddenly you have the makings of something wonderfully special: a quilt, a pouch, a needle book, a cushion — or simply a growing collection of hexies waiting patiently for their next adventure.

If you're a fellow hexie lover, you might want to have a little rummage through my new vintage sheet collection — there are plenty of pretty florals waiting to be turned into stitched treasures. 🌸
