The Werombee Hive

The Werombee Hive The Werombee Hive is a family-run farm in Theresa Park, NSW, where bees, creativity and country life come together.

Run by Stuart and Ally, we produce raw honey and handmade goods, host beekeeping and craft workshops, and welcome guests to our farmstay.

🚧🐝 WELL… THIS IS GETTING VERY REAL! 🐝🚧

There’s a whole lot of concrete action happening at The Werombee Hive today and we’re just a little bit excited!

The concrete is going down for our new roadside store, bee experience room, toilets AND commercial kitchen, all part of the next chapter here at The Hive. For quite a while, these spaces have existed as plans, ideas, measurements, conversations and plenty of β€œone day when we…” moments.

Well… β€œone day” is starting to look a lot like TODAY! πŸ™Œ

We can already imagine the roadside store filled with local honey and goodies, visitors gathering for honey tasting and the bee experience room… and, of course our girlfriends 🐝 wondering what on earth Stu and Ally are building now!

We honestly cannot wait to open these doors and share this next stage of The Werombee Hive with you. πŸ’›

Watch this space… The Hive is growing! 🐝🍯🌻

Meet Stuart β€” better known around here as the Werombee Man. 🐝

For more than 3 decades, Stuart has been building this farm here in Theresa Park and, alongside it, a deep passion for beekeeping. As a seasoned apiarist, he's spent that time learning the bees season by season β€” managing their health, handling swarms, and running the apiary that everything here begins with. He even played a part in the frontline response to varroa mite with the Department of Primary Industries.

What Stuart loves most is sharing what he knows. He doesn't just instruct β€” he guides, mentors, and takes the time to help people truly understand the bees. If you've met the hives on one of our programs, you've met Stuart and his belief that knowledge is meant to be shared.

If you'd like a one-on-one beekeeping experience with Stuart, head over to our website for more. 🍯

For the new followers who don't know me yet β€” let me reintroduce myself. πŸ‘‹

I'm Ally, one half of the family behind The Werombee Hive, and the maker around here. I love bringing imagination to life in all sorts of forms, from my linen dolls, crochet teddies, hand-poured beeswax candles, and the leadlight windows and mosaics you'll find throughout the Hive.

I'm also the one who develops and facilitates our bee education programs and workshops, sharing the world of the hive with kids and grown-ups alike. After more than 30 years serving my community, I've learned that the best things happen when we work together - and that what you do matters.

There's always something being made, and always something to learn. 🐝

How The Hive Was Created: Did you know that the bedhead used to be a balcony. πŸ›οΈ

It began life in the 1890s in Glebe, spending years overlooking the old Wentworth Park dog track. Now it's the centrepiece of your room here at the Hive β€” more than a century on, still watching over a good night's rest. All handmade by us!

Acacia Wattle. Oh how beautiful it is.

Those bright bursts of yellow along the bushland edge are the season's first signal - the bees notice before we do. On the warmer days now, you'll see them venturing further, working the early blossom, bringing the first fresh pollen back to the hive.

Oh how we cant wait for spring to arrive!

A gentle reminder β€” our Homeschool Bee Program is coming up soon on Wednesday, 19th August (9am–12pm). 🐝

It's a hands-on morning in the fresh farm air: meeting the hives, learning how a colony works, and understanding the small, quiet role bees play in everything that grows around us. A handful of spots are still open.

Book online at www.thewerombeehive.net/homeschool-bee-program β€” we'd love to have your family join us.

Did you know that bees have a language, and it's danced. 🐝

When a forager finds a good patch of flowers, she comes home and dances it out β€” a little waggling figure-eight that tells the others which way to fly and how far to go. The angle of the dance points them toward the sun. It's how the whole hive decides where to spend its day.

You can learn more about bees at one of our school holiday programs, homeschool programs or during our one-on-one beekeeping experiences. To book head over to our website to learn more.

How The Hive Was Created

In our farmstay, the sliding doors between the bathroom and garage have a past. πŸš‚

They're original carriage doors from one of Sydney's old "red rattlers," still gliding along their original brass rails. A little piece of the city's history, quietly at home on the farm.
