Designed by Mexico based Nouvel + EWE studio, the Magma light is another stunning piece of functional, nature inspired art that made us all stop and say ‘wow’ when we stumbled across it while doing research for our Cobalt House project.

What we love about it is the way analogue glassblowing and steel moulding techniques have been combined with modern LED lighting technology to create a series of organic, undulating, bulbous forms. It’s as if the molten earth itself is oozing out of the wall.

From beach cottages to heritage listed Victorian homes in the iconic suburb of Albert Park, there is something intoxicatingly charming about buildings with history.

Our approach to heritage renovations is to seamlessly blend the old with the new, and when appropriate, create moments of tension by juxtaposing clean contemporary angles with delicate, intricate Victorian details. It’s about contrast and a consistent narrative that lets us unlock the potential of these grand old homes and transform them into functional, timeless homes.

It’s never about trends. It’s about letting the house reveal its story and weaving our clients' story into the very fabric of the home.

There’s nothing better than strolling along the beach in summer.

Warm sand between your toes, gentle waves lapping at the shore, and rows of classic Aussie beach cottages painted in classic heritage and Mid-Century modern colours lining the shore.

There’s just something so perfect about the pairing of deep cherry red with smokey blue - and of course the classic nautical stripes of sunshine yellow, ocean blue and fluffy cloud white.

For interior designer Sarah Ford, who took this photo over the summer, the nostalgic, sensory delights of Safety Beach on the Mornington Peninsular serve as a favourite source of inspiration.

No human-made colours can truly compare to the awe inspiring colours that swirl and shift across the sky at sunset.

Project architect Melanie Yard captured these mesmerising images of the sun making her descent while back home in Queensland.

When we design a house that welcomes in natural light, we think not just about daylight. We consider how the kaleidoscopic colours of sunset, twilight, and starlight can be experienced, even from within the protection of four walls.

From multifaceted moody blues to soft warm neutrals akin to Cloud Dancer, Pantone’s colour of the year.

As a studio we’ve never followed trends. Not because we’re anti- widespread appeal, but because our ethos is about creating timeless, seemingly effortless designs that elevate the experience of living and being in the spaces we create.

Which is exactly what we sought to achieve for our clients in Sorrento when we designed Sand Dunes Sanctuary.

While Wangarratta born, Melbourne based artist, Matthew Harris’s show ‘Overlanders’ closed last month, we can’t stop thinking about his ability to embed ‘lowbrow’, everyday domestic materials with deeply complex cultural and social narratives to create deceptively simple contemporary artworks.

Like these cyanotypes on cotton sateen. We can imagine these works cascading down a stairwell, or running the length of an internal hallway, bringing narrative and visual depth into a residential setting.

Made using recycled plastic water bottles, The AMATSUYU VASE, presented by two Japanese companies Aqua Clara × HONOKA at Milan Design Week in 2025, is one of those stunningly simple, yet breathtakingly beautiful objects that make us go ‘wow’.

The deep, multifaceted cobalt blue is a hue we’ve been drawn to recently. Depending on how and where you use it, it can be moody and mysterious, opulent and sensual, soothing and calming, or loud and powerful.

In this flythrough of the final design for VDG - a design that has been 18 months in the making - the initial concept for VDG remains evident if you look closely enough. What has changed is the style of the thresholds, adding more European romance with a contemporary spin to a home that is going to hold a commanding presence on the street.

While inspiration often comes from seemingly nowhere in an instant, the actual processes of architecture and design takes time. Months, and in some cases years.

These renderings show an early iteration of our VDG project in Brighton. An extensive renovation to a house originally designed by Nicholas Day, our concept was conceived as a sanctuary for multi-sensory living. Over the past 18 months we’ve refined and finetuned the building program and design elements to create a house that reflects our clients life and style.
