The idea of May House Timber was created by Bao Nguyen, who has been working as Mechanical Designer engineer since 2011*. In 2016, Bao got invited to finish his Honours in Production Design at RMIT university in order to enlarge his vision of design. Throughout these years of work, creation, and evaluation of many design concepts, it comes to the fascinating fact that woodworking has naturally become his greatest passion. Together with his wife Anh Nguyen, who graduated as creative art designer from LaTrobe University**, May House Timber was founded based on the concept of sustainable and recyclable materials. Once it was started as a passion, forever it will be. And since aspiration can bring joy to people, then it becomes our life mission.

Bachelor of Aerospace & Automotive Engineering.

Life these days.

School holidays means getting a surprise treat from our kid during work 🍭

A rich, dark Messmate benchtop for a laundry fitting 🧺

Somewhere in between, our dog found the perfect spot by the rainbow​ 🌈 and somehow with all the work, drawings 🖍️ treats and chaos happening around us, a few special pieces started to come to life​ 🪵🌿

We don’t have a big shop on a busy road.

We don’t have a big marketing team to make sure people find us.

We’re just a small family workshop, tucked away in a little corner of West Moonah, Tasmania.

Most days, it’s simply us, making, sanding, packing, sweeping the workshop floor, and doing it all again the next day.

Every piece we make carries a little part of our family in it. The time, the care, the little details we fuss over because we want it to be just right.

There’s no middleman. No big company in between. Just our hands, our little workshop, and the hope that something we’ve made will find a place in your home.

And honestly every time someone chooses to support our work, it means more to us than we could ever put into words.

More than a decade ago on the night our daughter May was born, in the whirlwind of becoming first​ time parents, we did something impulsive: we bought the domain and named it MayHouse.

At the time, we had absolutely no idea what it would become. (We got married in May, so that was how we found her name).

Those early days were a blur of sleepless nights​, seeking a little "me time​ escape", Bao started disappearing into our tiny garage shed​. Using whatever offcuts he could find, he began to build.

Our very first official creation? A handcrafted, beautiful bed cot for May. Though she had other ideas about sleeping in it​.

​Since then, ​B​ao's dungeon was busy with daily essentials: a darling toy kitchen for May, a warm timber hanging light box to hold our indoor plants, the plants survived for an exact one week!.

Then came a curved chair that looked like a fish bone, a piece we still adore and keep in our home to this day.

We’ve ​slowly grown from that tiny ​cave into a family​ run workshop​, where every piece is written in oak and ash, crafted to hold the stories of your home just as dearly as we hold our own.

So here we are today, still believing that wood is a storyteller​, and furniture a living memory.
