I’m now working full time so I need my weekend breaks. It’s also not cost effective to pay for Public Liability Insurance just to open one day a week, and it’s not viable to employ someone. So I’m taking a break for a while.

I often get asked about uranium glass. And yes, it does have trace elements of uranium, but it is in such low levels it’s not considered dangerous. It glows fluorescent under black light (UV395 - not under UV365). The best way to confirm if its uranium glass is with a Geiger meter. It looks like normal green glass in daylight. There are lots of other things that glow under UV that may contain elements such Cadmium, Selenium or Manganese. These often glow pink, blue, orange or other colours. It’s fun having a hunt through the shop in pitch dark with a UV light! Here’s what my glass cabinet looks like, can you pick the uranium pieces?
