INSPIRE - Australian Inspiration Series #5.

I just love these colours!!! I chose the brightest shades to represent the gorgeous colours of coral in the Great Barrier Reef. The final blue has a turquoise shimmer running through it as well (Thanks to Mel at .couk). This mandala has pride of place in my classroom this year.

INSPIRE - Australian Inspire Series #4.

I remember learning the poem ‘My Country’ by Dorothea MacKellar at school and the lines have always stuck in my head.

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!

The idea of a sunburnt sunset seems perfect for this mandala. I used the Limerick yarn cake from .couk but only just touched on the final dark blue. This pattern also seems like it is made for this colourway. What a combo💜!!

INSPIRE - Australian Inspiration Series #3.

These beautiful colours were chosen to match one of my favourite beaches here on the NSW South Coast. From the centre the colours move from Sand to Surf to Sea. I’ve made this colourway twice now and one hangs in the UK just outside of London with and the second is in the office of my sister here on the South Coast.

INSPIRE - Australian Inspiration Series #2.

These colours were chosen to create ‘Everlasting Eucalyptus’ with their pale tree trunks leading up to the different shades of green leaves 🤍💚. This mandala is hanging right by my Mum’s front door.

This pattern from is one of my absolute favourites and I think it’s time to create another. I’ve used quite muted tones for the 5 that I’ve made so it’s time for a bright pop of colour!!

INSPIRE - Australian Inspiration Series #1. With the help of Mel from Crochet UK] I picked some colour schemes that really represent parts of Australia. She whipped them up into amazing gradient yarn cakes and I’m going to post each one of my mandalas over the next few weeks. I hope you enjoy!🇦🇺

These colours in this beautiful mandala were picked to match some incredible dusk photos that a friend took on their long drive through the Australian outback! was travelling whilst pregnant with her gorgeous Acacia (now 5 months old) and she picked these colours and the Lotus and Blossom pattern from - Desert Dusk was formed. I know I will use this colour scheme and pattern again!

UNWIND

I definitey see a ‘Make a Mandala’ workshop in my future! Once I get back to Oz, I’m going to get moving with the wonderful Penny to start running some workshops. Is there any better way to spend a day creating, talking about yarn, learning new skills and coming home with a beautiful piece of fibre art?

I had a stall this weekend at my school in the UK and most of the questions I had were about lessons and workshops. Not long now !!

CREATE
Starting a new project with a dear friend is a lovely thing. I feel like I have neglected B&Y a bit over the past few months but I wanted to start and work through a whole new project and share the progress here.

and I are starting the Summer Nights Ruana together! We had a little crochet session yesterday and made a start on the first couple of rows and hopefully we’ll have it finished well before the Summer. It’s a lovely poncho pattern and I can’t wait for the sunrise/set to appear!
