From the time I was 10 years old my greatest fear has been sharks. I don't mean just your average run of the mill fear. I'm talking phobia, never swim in the ocean, can't even look at pictures kind of fear. I don't even swim in a pool on my own. Ridiculous, I know. I have slowly been trying to tackle it. I can now walk through the aquarium and look at pictures. So the next step was to draw one. The actual shark is tiny, but its a start.

He is finished! While pastelmat may never be my favourite surface, I really did enjoy this one.

Lego has always been one of my favourite things. I remember as a kid, my brother and I would spread a big blanket on the floor, upend the big plastic tub and spend hours building all the Pirate and Robin Hood sets. Later as an adult I started buying a few things. Those few things swiftly became 4 giant tubs. 😳

I have had to pause the Lego lately as between that and all my pencils I am running out of room!

Anyone who knows me, knows I am a bit of a Lego addict. So naturally I had to incorporate it in my art. Oddly enough, it is much harder to get the realism on this than humans or animals. Go figure 🤷🏻‍♀️. I am absolutely loving this one though. So much fun!

And it's done. Even with a line art, correct proportions and straight lines were tough. I really did enjoy this even if it was on my least favourite surface.

Something different to broaden my skills. A different subject on a different surface. I have on drawn on Pastelmat a handful of times and haven't been a fan. So many artists sings its praises so I thought I would give it another shot. I still don't love it, but it's growing on me.

My pencils were all over the place, so I bought myself some Ikea drawers....then I had a whinge because they were still rolling around in the drawer. Enter the husband with his trusty tape measure and a router. And Voilà, a custom set of drawer inserts, so no more rolling pencils. Lucky me!

I love those amazing artists who draw in beautiful clothes with perfect hair, immaculate nails and flawless make-up, looking effortlessly elegant. Their posts and reels are always beautifully put together with a gorgeous aesthetic..sadly, that is not me.

I do not have an elegant bone in my body and I am not tech-savvy enough to do any of it anyway.

However, when I am drawing, I am the comfort queen! I usually look like a feral, little gremlin. Faded track pants, oversized jumper or oodie, hair a mess, and the creative supervisor either begging for food or trying to claw her way on to my lap. I am constantly dropping pencils, whacking my knees and elbows on the table or hitting my head on the light.

Anyhoo, thought I would have a crack at some different skin tones and am actually quite enjoying it.

And the little jar of happiness is finished. I love hyper-realism and am plugging away, working on improving my art until I reach that point. This is from Paco Martín Domínguez Colored Pencil Hyper-realism tutorial book. His art is phenomenal. I would love to one day create the type of realism that he achieves. Although I probably need to master patience first 😳😆.

Just bought another light for my drawing desk so hopefully I will be able to draw more in the evenings now.
