A little peek back at last year’s Spring Hometastic Box 🌷

There’s something rather lovely about a box arriving on your doorstep when you have absolutely no idea what’s inside.

This was last year’s Spring Box, but this year’s is completely different and, as always, the contents are staying secret until they arrive.

What I CAN tell you is that I’m very excited about this one. 😊

And just like that, August is done. ❤️

A month of little moments, lovely memories and quite a lot squeezed in.

A weekend with the grandchildren, beach walks with Toby, The Lion King, Christmas product photography in August 😂, Sunday afternoon cocktails and out and about doing things I love.

Sometimes it’s only when you look back through your camera roll that you realise how much life has happened in one month.

So please excuse me while I dump these here! 🤣

My best friend of more than 30 years is coming to Australia! 🇬🇧✈️🇦🇺

It will be her first ever visit and I honestly cannot wait to show her where I live, take her to all my favourite places and do all the touristy things too. 😂

Moving to the other side of the world makes you realise that, as much as we joke about missing British chocolate, familiar foods and all those words nobody understands over here, what you really miss is the people.

The friends who have known you forever. The people who share your memories. The ones you can pick up with as though no time has passed at all. ♥️

I couldn’t do much about missing them when I moved here.

But I could surround myself with little reminders of home.

Things that felt familiar. Things that brought back memories. Things that gave me a little connection to the place and people I’d left behind.

And that’s really where the idea behind Ruby’s came from.

17 years later, Australia is very much home too.

But I’m counting down the days until my bestie gets here. ❤️

Six years ago, we thought we were simply moving house.

Looking back, I can see we were actually choosing a completely different way of life.

We left behind a beautiful home we’d built in Sydney, a huge mortgage and the life we’d thought we were going to have.

And we made the move we’d always imagined we’d make one day when we retired.

We weren’t retiring. Far from it. 😂

But we were choosing a different kind of life.

A little less financial pressure.
A calmer place to call home.
And a life beside the water. ❤️

Of course, as you’ve just seen, our fresh start didn’t exactly begin smoothly. 😂

But despite everything that happened on moving day, we knew we’d made the right decision.

And I still feel that way today.

This house has changed enormously since those first days. And that enormous garage I thought would give my little business loads of room certainly has a story of its own too. 😂

But that’s for another episode…

Part 7 of Life Had Other Plans ♥️

These two have been firm favourites at Ruby’s before, and I’m very happy to have them back… although sadly, for the last time. ❤️

The gorgeous Pelican Bowl and Ceramic Koala Planter are created by the very talented Colin at White Moose.

White Moose have made the difficult decision to cease selling wholesale, which means once our little collection is gone, we won’t be able to restock them again.

So if you’ve had your eye on one before, this really is your last chance to find one at Ruby’s.

And a little personal thank you to Colin. ❤️

As a small business myself, I’m incredibly grateful to the designers and suppliers who take a chance on other small businesses and allow us to share their beautiful work with our customers.

Thank you, Colin, for giving my little business the opportunity to stock White Moose. It’s been an absolute pleasure having your wonderfully quirky pieces at Ruby’s Home Store.
