✨Update! Let's Make a Paper Mache Wombat!✨

Our wombat is really starting to take shape. We've now started working on the paws and the bottom section as we get our wombat ready to be attached to its plinth.

It's been fantastic seeing so many people get involved. So far, 210 people have contributed to our community wombat project, and there's still time to add your piece to the wombat.

When you visit Creative Paper Tasmania, you can join one of our hands-on papermaking tours, learn about the history and traditional techniques of handmade paper, then roll up your sleeves and make your own sheets of paper before placing them on the wombat and becoming part of this unique community project.

Don't forget to sign the contribution book and leave your mark on this special community creation.

Papermaking Workshops – Every 2nd Saturday
10am–1pm | Creative Paper Tasmania

Spend a few relaxing hours getting hands-on with the art of papermaking.

You’ll start by learning how to make your own paper from scratch using recycled cotton rag, h**p and linen, then explore ways to turn it into something creative and personal. We’ll play with:

✨Watercolour paper, Embossing and watermarks
✨ Pulp painting with coloured fibres
✨ Leaves, flowers and natural inclusions
✨ And a few other creative techniques along the way

These workshops are fun, relaxed, and suitable for all ages and abilities — no experience needed.

🐾 Let’s Make a Wombat! 🐾

We are now 2 months into our community project and are getting close to 200 people contributing to our giant papier-mâché wombat! 🐾

Standing 150cm tall and 110cm wide, this amazing wombat is being created one handmade sheet at a time by our wonderful visitors and community.

Update: Let’s Make a Wombat!

Creative Paper Tasmania has welcomed a wave of visitors rolling up their sleeves, making their own sheets of paper, and stepping into the role of paper mache artists.

Our community wombat project has now had over 150 people contribute—something pretty special to be part of.

A big moment this week: our paper mache artist Pam Thorne has given the wombat its eyes! Now it really feels like we’re getting close to the finish line.

So… what should we create next?
