Apparently we’re about to commit a renovation crime… changing our 40+ year-old Tudor. 😂🤎

We’ve had quite a few comments from people begging us to keep the Tudor detailing, preserve the original style and PLEASE not turn everything beige. 😂

And look, we get it! Everyone has different tastes, and there’s something special about older homes and the character they bring.

But here’s the thing…

We didn’t buy Hazelwood because we fell in love with its existing Tudor style.

We fell in love with the incredible bones. The high ceilings, the scale of the rooms, the layout, the beautiful land, the location, the price and all the potential we could see from the very beginning.

And while we’re planning to change almost every inch of this house, that doesn’t mean we’re trying to turn it into a modern, characterless home.

Quite the opposite!

Our vision has always been a warm, timeless European farmhouse, blending old-world charm with modern living. Think natural stone, warm oak, beautiful textures, traditional detailing and spaces that feel like they’ve always belonged.

We want that beautiful balance between old and new, while making the home functional for our family.

And ultimately, that’s what it comes down to. 🤎

This is the home we hope to raise our kids in, make a lifetime of memories and hopefully grow old together.

We absolutely love bringing everyone along for the journey, and we know not every decision will be everyone’s cup of tea. That’s completely okay!

We’re still refining the designs, but we’re so excited to see this vision come to life.

Now we’re genuinely curious…

Life lately… 🤎

A little bit of everything, really. 😂

School carnivals, footy weekends, beach afternoons, baking with the kids, back to work, plenty of family time and a whole lot happening behind the scenes.

Our beautiful Pro has had her surgery, Hazelwood is keeping us busy, and somewhere amongst it all we’re trying to remember to slow down and enjoy the little things too.

Life has been pretty full lately, and while there’s so much we’re working towards, these are the moments I never want to overlook.

The sandy feet, the school events, the little family outings, the ordinary afternoons and watching our babies grow up far too quickly. 🥹

Because as exciting as all the big milestones are, it’s usually the little moments in between that mean the most.

Two things can be true at once🤍

You can be incredibly grateful for the life you have, love your family more than anything, and still have days where it all feels like a lot.

The noise, the constant juggling, the never-ending to-do lists, trying to be present while your mind is already thinking about the next ten things… some days it’s exhausting. 😂

But then there are little moments like this that remind me just how lucky I am.

I’m learning that being grateful doesn’t mean every part of life has to feel easy.

And I think sometimes we all need that reminder✨

We could’ve been mortgage-free… but instead we sold our house and went all in on this dream. 😂🤎

Winning The Block changed our lives in ways we never could’ve imagined. 🥹 We had the opportunity to completely pay off our mortgage, stay in the beautiful home we already owned and enjoy a little more financial freedom.

And trust me, that was VERY tempting. 😂

But somewhere along the way, we started dreaming about something different.

More space for the kids, established trees, a little bit of country living while still being close to the coast, and a property we could turn into something really special.

Somewhere our kids could grow up exploring, family and friends could gather, and hopefully one day our grandkids would be running around too. 🤎

So instead of taking the mortgage-free option, we sold our house and bought Hazelwood Estate.

A $1.4 million, 40+ year-old Tudor on 5.5 acres that needs an enormous amount of love (and money 😅).

Was it the sensible option? Probably not. Have we had a few moments wondering what on earth we’ve signed ourselves up for? Absolutely. 😂

But we didn’t buy Hazelwood for what it looks like today. We bought it for the land, the character, the good bones and everything we could picture it becoming.

And honestly, the lifestyle around Mandurah was a huge part of it too. Beautiful beaches, waterways, acreage living and the best of country and coastal life.

We know there’s a long road ahead, and we’re under no illusion that this is going to be easy. But sometimes the dream you keep coming back to is the one you decide to take a chance on.

So here we are. Mortgage and all, about to transform a house that we hope will be our forever home. 🥹🤎

Saving this one for later… 👀

Before we change almost every inch of this 40+ year old house, we wanted to capture these exact spots as they are now.

Because right now, there’s no “after”. 😂 Just a whole lot of plans, an enormous amount of work ahead of us, and a pretty clear picture in our heads of what we hope Hazelwood will become.

So we filmed the first half of these transitions now… and hopefully, 12 months from now, we’ll stand in these exact same spots and finally get to finish them. 🥹🤎

I have a feeling looking back at these one day is going to be pretty special.

For now, this is the before.

We thought we’d have a pretty normal life… apparently that wasn’t really our style 😂🤎

When we first met, I don’t think either of us could have imagined what life would look like now. Somewhere along the way we became husband and wife, Mum and Dad, built careers we genuinely love, somehow ended up on The Block, won the bloody thing 🥹 and then decided the obvious next move was to buy 5.5 acres and take on another enormous renovation. 😂

There have been plenty of moments where we’ve looked at each other and thought what are we actually doing?, but I think the common thread through all of it has always been us.

We’re best friends first, and we’ve always been a team. Sometimes one of us carries more, sometimes the other does, and sometimes we’re both just winging it 😂 But there’s not much I’d be scared to take on knowing I’ve got Taz beside me.

And now we’re at the beginning of another pretty big chapter with Hazelwood. A home we hope our kids grow up in, that we grow old in, and that will probably test that teamwork more than once along the way. 😂🤎

Turns out The Block taught us a little more than how to renovate a house 😮‍💨

When you’re renovating at that speed, you learn pretty quickly what matters, what doesn’t, what you’d do differently next time… and how to problem solve when absolutely nothing goes to plan 😂

Now that we’re about to do it all over again with Hazelwood, there are definitely a few lessons we’re taking with us. Although this time, thankfully, we have a little longer than 12 weeks 🛠️

And with demo FINALLY starting soon, we have a feeling we’re about to learn a whole lot more.
