A big one on the bench this week 🌿
800mm diameter x 350mm drop, wrapped in Tasmanian Blackheart Sassafras.
Blackheart is one of Tasmania’s most distinctive timbers. Those dramatic dark streaks are completely natural, formed as the sassafras grows slowly in our cool temperate rainforests, so no two pieces will ever look the same. This shade is truly one of a kind.
Why veneer? It’s the most respectful way to use a special timber. Slicing a log into thin leaves lets a single log cover many times the surface area that solid timber could, so a precious resource goes much further and far less is taken from the forest.
Our veneers are sustainably sourced right here in Tasmania, and every shade is handcrafted in our Youngtown workshop, from forming and wrapping the veneer to the final finish.
This one is finished in LED-cured Oslek Hardwax Oil for a hard-wearing, natural finish that lets the grain do the talking.
