On 9th May, alongside our World Fair Trade Day celebration, BaSE proudly conducted our Annual General Meeting with the active participation of all our women producer group leaders.

Together, we reviewed our activities, discussed future action plans, explored challenges and possible solutions, and strengthened our shared commitment to Fair Trade and sustainable livelihoods.

We were especially grateful to virtually welcome our beloved Sondrio family from Italy, Mr. Benedetto, and our valued friend and partner from EquoMercato, Mr. Alessandro. Their inspirational and motivational speeches deeply encouraged our artisans and team members. 💚

The entire day was filled with colourful traditional dresses, meaningful discussions, laughter, songs, shared meals, and heartfelt connections.

Fair Trade is not only about products — it is about people, dignity, solidarity, friendship, and hope.

Together, we continue building a fairer and more sustainable future.

🌸 International Women’s Day – Meet the Woman Behind the Craft 🌸

Hira Roy, 38, is one of the skilled artisans behind BaSE Handicrafts. For the past 14 years, her hands have quietly shaped beautiful handmade products — but her story is much bigger than craft.

Hira learned this work from her mother, who also worked with handicrafts. As a child, she watched closely, learning basket weaving, skill by skill. What began as observation slowly became her own profession and pride.

Today, Hira is a mother of two sons. Her husband works as a 'rickshaw' van driver, and together they do everything they can to build a better future for their children.

Her elder son, Debit Roy, is now preparing for his HSC exams, while her younger son, Deepta Roy, studies in Class 9. Through her craft work, Hira contributes to their education and helps support the family.

With her earnings, she has even been able to rent a small shop, creating a stable place to continue her work.

Every product she makes carries something more than craftsmanship — it carries a mother’s determination, patience, and hope for her children’s future.

✨ This International Women’s Day, we celebrate women like Hira — women whose quiet strength sustains families, communities, and traditions.

When you choose handmade, you support stories like hers.

🌿 Big News from BaSE! 🌿

We are proud to share that BaSE has been selected as a grantee of the Gateway to Fair Trade Fashion (G2FTF) Support Grant Scheme!

Out of 32 eligible applications across the global WFTO community, our project was chosen for its strong potential to strengthen Fair Trade fashion.

Through this support, BaSE will work on Branding & Storytelling, in collaboration with Scottish Fair Trade, to:

✨ Strengthen our brand identity
✨ Sharpen our market positioning
✨ Improve communication with international buyers
✨ Professionally present the stories of women artisans

This initiative will help us build stronger buyer confidence, secure long-term market access, and ensure that the craftsmanship of women artisans is represented with dignity and authenticity.

For our artisan community, this means:
💛 More stable income
💛 Greater job security
💛 Expanded opportunities — especially for women and persons with disabilities

This is not just funding. It’s a step toward transforming artisan stories into lasting market strength.
