"Speaking at BUET, people clapped as I mentioned that we have enough hardware, but a lack of fire safety culture is the main obstacle. Engineers think about hardware, firefighters think about firefighting, and architects need to think about building safety.

In academia, we teach nothing about fire safety because senior educators think fire safety is a simple issue that can be covered in an hour. It doesn't receive any special attention to be included in the curriculum.

What professionals do after an incident is start blaming the government and other agencies for their negligence.

Unfortunately, none of us talk about safety culture. Culture teaches us to fight within our abilities, like every year during storms, floods, etc.

We should stop the culture of passing the pillow. Find the root cause and stand together for a better future.

Five of my BUETian friends started from the root, but school principals are always too busy to talk with us and give us permission to talk with kids."

There is an urgent need for a cultural shift towards prioritizing fire safety, starting from educational institutions and permeating throughout professional practices and society as a whole. It's about fostering a mindset of proactive prevention rather than reactive blame-shifting.
