We are having a mother-daughter panta party. Panta is a traditional dish made from rice soaked overnight in water, typically served with various side dishes and onion, green chili, or roasted red chilis. This delicacy is particularly popular among rural Bangladeshis. Today's menu features Alu (potato) bhorta, fried begun (eggplant) bhorta, piaj morich bhorta (onion and roasted red chili), shutki (dried fish) bhuna, dim (egg) bhorta, and maach bhaja (fish fry).
Whatever you are eating this week moja kore khao. ♥️

For the holidays, we always gather for a family meal. Sometimes it's a bideshi (foreign/western) meal, sometimes it's a deshi meal (from Bangladesh).

This year, we decided to do a deshi spread in the shagorana style, with a few of our favourite things. This is typically the type of meal prepared for a new groom by the bride's family. Instead of a multitude of dishes with saucy curries and gravys, this meal is usually served as one platter with a bed of polao (scented rice or pilaf), topped with roast chicken, kababs, boiled eggs and vegetable garnishes. Our version is quite simple, but these can be very elaborate. With wedding season starting in Bangladesh these types of platters will be more frequent in the next few months.

Our platter included polao, chicken roast, beef kabab, chicken kabab, egg, and potato. We included a salad and malai paneer (paneer in a creamy gravy) on the side. Dessert included cookies, shahi firni (similar to rice pudding), fruit cake and a fruit platter.

From our table to yours, enjoy the holidays, and whatever you're eating, moja kore khao (eat with delight, or enjoy your food!)
