Under layers of dust and folded paper, entire lives still wait quietly to be discovered.
Faces from another century. Headlines once read at breakfast tables in distant Japanese homes. Sunlight touching them again after decades of silence.

Even in the heavy summer heat, we continue searching — page by page, object by object — for fragments of forgotten Japan.

Not everything survives time.
But some stories refuse to disappear.

New arrival — a vintage Japanese shishi-odoshi / sōzu in bamboo and wood.

Originally used in Japanese gardens to create a soft tapping sound as the bamboo fills with water, tilts, empties and returns. Once functional for keeping animals away, today it is loved as a meditative garden object and a beautiful decorative piece.

A striking object for lovers of Japanese gardens, quiet design and natural materials.

Straight from the old box — and soon to be restored with care.

The ship in this photograph is the Japanese destroyer Ikazuchi — meaning “thunder” or “lightning”. The handwritten note says the sailor served on board from 1941 to 1944. In April 1944, the Ikazuchi was sunk by an American submarine near Guam, with no survivors.

The second framed photograph shows an official group portrait in front of the newly built Sakash*ta District Police Station, dated 26 January 1932. It includes members of the police and the local fire brigade association — a formal moment of early Shōwa-period civic history.

We will carefully clean, restore and honour them again as quiet fragments of Japanese history.
